Rune Script Magic
When you "spell" a word in runes, it empowers that
word. It makes it magical. The Norse would often finish
runic inscriptions with the statement "So-and-so wrote
this" or "So-and-so made me." By doing this, the carver
of the runes was magically connected to the writing.
One easy way to use runes for magic is to write out rune
rows, or rune scripts. These runic mini-spells are made up
of a sequence of two or more runes. For example, if you wanted
to create a rune row to help enhance your magical abilities, you
could use Laguz, Perdhro, Ansuz, and Kenaz.
Runic scripts may be inscribed on talismans, magical tools,
and other personal belongings. They may also be carved into
a piece of wood or an altar candle, or in any number of other
things. Your selection of materials is important, since this
will be the medium that ferries your message between worlds,
adding its own signature to the energies. For example, metals,
stone, and wood are excellent amplifiers of runic energies.
Plastic has little or no energy.
Permanent runic inscriptions may also be carved or engraved on
personal items such as jewelry, furniture, fountains, and other
similar objects. Natural materials are best for the enscription
runes because their elemental energies combine with the runic
energies to create a stronger magical field. But never carve runes
into living trees. This would indicate a foolish lack of respect
for nature and would often harm the tree. To enscript runes on living
things such as trees, trace the runes with consecrated oil instead of
carving them.
If you are going to send the runic script energy out by burning it in
your incense burner or fire-pot, use small pieces of wood, parchment,
or regular paper. When using wood, scrape off the runic symbols and burn
only those shavings in the fire-pot.
