Consecrating Your Magical Tools
After your wand's skin has dried, smudge it with cedar
and sage or incense to clear it of any unwanted energies.
You can also use sea salt and water for this purpose, or
pass the tool carefully through the flame of a sacred fire.
You can also clear it out by setting it in the sun or moonlight.
Next, consecrate or hallow the tool for its particular magical
function by merging deeply and invoking the divine energies of
the Goddess and God, with the intention of charging the tool
with the elemental qualities they embody. Become one with these
divine beings, asking them to impart their energy and aspects
into the object of your focus. Visualize and sense the power of
the Goddess and God, and then use your breath to physically move
the divine energy into the item, by breathing in and then sharply
exhaling. Do this at least three times and, for better results, nine
times. Your breath and focused attention are the carrier waves that
move the energy into the tool. Visualize what you will be using the
tool for and how it will help you. Reflect on these images and
feelings, making the tool your own and fashioning its magical purpose.
Washing your altar tools in the morning dew before sunrise fills
them with divine creative power and knowledge. As well as dew for
consecrating your tools, you can use the water of a river, the ocean,
or a lake, or any of the other elements to charge your tools with
powerful energies. For example, you can use the sun to empower your
tools (fire); you can rub fresh soil on them (earth); you can bathe
your tools in incense smoke (air). You can also rub herbs and oils
on your tools to enhance their energies.
The best time to consecrate knives, swords, staffs, and wands is
at sunrise on a clear day. Use the power of the sun's birth to fill
yourself and, in turn, your tools with this energy. Other ideal times
for consecrating magical tools are noon, twilight, and midnight, de-
pending upon their intended use.
You can also consecrate magical tools by using this invocation. Hold
the tool in both hands, and say these words of power:
In the name of the High Ones,
In the name of the Aesir, Vanir, and the Norns,
In the divine light of Oneness,
Hail to the Ancestors, the Kin Fetch, to Life and Creation.
May the (name of tool) be made sacred.
I consecrate and hallow this (name of tool) to (name of deity).
May you imbue it with your power and light,
May those who use it well receive the blessings of the High Ones,
May they be granted wisdom, strength, and good fortune,
And may their spirits be bright and mighty.
So mote it be! (or So shall it be!)
