Adapted from the traditional celtic Cross Tarot layout,
this twelve-rune reading is my personal favorite.
It is especially halpful for making decisions and
learning more about possible changes in career,
relationships, and your living environment.
In this layout, you add a Significator rune stone
or card. To choose a Significator, place all the
runes or rune cards faceup on the casting cloth in
front of you, and then select the most appropriate
rune. The Significator represents the subject of the
reading-either yourself or the person for whom you
are doing the reading. You can also choose a
Significator rune by simply selecting the rune with
which you have the strongest affinity, one that you
feel corresponds with your personal image. When doing
a reading for other people, have them select the rune
they feel most drawn to as the Significator. The
Significator can also be a rune that reflects the matter
in question. For example, in questions regarding personal
credit and money, you could use Fehu. For questions
relating to travel, you might employ Raidho as the
Significator. For questions pertaining to disruptive or
sudden change, you could select Hagalaz.
Begin by placing the first rune, the Significator rune,
faceup, in the center of the layout. Then gather the
remaining runes together and mix them as usual, focusing
on the question at hand. Pull the runes, one at a time,
and place them, faceup, as shown in the above layout,
starting with the second rune, which goes to the right
of the Significator rune. Place the third rune to the
right of the second, and continue, following the layout,
until you have pulled all twelve runes.
Rune #1:
This is the Significator rune that represents the
person for whom the reading is being done.
Rune #2:
The second rune signifies the question.
Rune #3:
The third rune denotes immediate future influences,
positive and negative.
Rune #4:
The fourth rune reflects childhood and other past
influences.
Rune #5:
The fifth, the rune to the left, reveals present
influences just about to move out of your life.
Rune #6:
The sixth rune at the top of the cross shows
possible influences in teh future, depending
upon the polarities of the runes next to it.
For example, if runes #5 and #7 were Algiz
and Thurisaz, and rune #6 was Tiwaz, rune #6
may represent a potential enemy or threat.

These runes reflect influences that might
come into being.

Rune #7:
The seventh rune represents future influences
that will impact the question at hand.
Rune #8 and #9:
These two runes signify your hopes and fears.
Read them in combination, since hope and fear
are basically two ends of the same polarity.
Hope and fear are polar opposites, which means
they reflect one another. For example, hoping
for a new love in your life may also be your
fear-in this case, a fear of intimacy.
Rune #10:
The tenth rune shows influences from your
family and friends, positive and negative.
For example, if Thurisaz shows up here,
you may be having thorny relations with
your parents or friends. If Dagaz shows up
in this position, you may finally be seeing
daylight with a problem relationship. If
Othala shows up, it may indicate an
inheritance from family or friends.
Rune #11 and #12:
These are final-outcome runes. Two runes appear
in this final position to give you options. Read
these runes in combination with each other.
