| "Plus Christmas is not just something to do with
Jesus Christ it is > named after Him, Christ-mas.(Pretty hard to ignore if u ask me)" How do you mean it is pretty hard to ignore? have you not noticed that the word "christmas" has almost completely been banned in the secular world due to its meaning as a "religious word"? You more often than not see the words "happy holidays" now instead of "merry christmas". many companies, schools, govt. agencies, etc. have all but eliminated the whole thought of christ during the holidays...its all about the "holiday party", "holiday shopping season", "Holiday decorations" etc etc etc... Besides, you may be able to prove that christ was alive, lived, shared news about christianity, and died on the cross...but you cant prove him as the son of God. (not saying that i dont believe...just that you cant prove it) bb and Happy Holidays! 3/4angel |

| OK, so let's pretend there was a jesus (actually, i
know there is proof that he has existed). He started christianity by walking around, telling how his god was the right one. That doesn't mean that he cured the sick, made blind ppl see and stuff, that was only a story made up by those who wrote about him. Jesus was a prophet of the religeon he believed in. That does NOT mean that god exists. Did he ever say anything about being the son of god? Nope, he was a good one on conversing, to make everything as cryptical as possible. I don't think that he ever said that he was the son of god. Faith you say? I can tell you this: Faith is not fact. I don't think there is a god, just because many people believe in it. Is there fairys just because many people believe that there is? Is there world peace, just because someone have faith in the fact? Not really, I'd say. You can have faith in whatever you want, there still is no possible way that jesus cured all those people. \Fredrik |

| You are presuming that the only thing one does at
christmas is worship god. This is not true! In our family, we never read any bible chapters, or even say an table prayer (?) on christmas eve. We get presents, give present, hang out together... Talk.. Never about religeous things though. Christmas is a tradition, and I really don't want to give up on all those presents and all yuletide joy I have, just because some 100 years ago, all you did on christmas was to celebrate the birth of jesus. There isn't even certenity that he was born on christmas day. |

| Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on lately, we have
finals right now and I have to study most of the day :(. Christmas time as an atheist is a very difficult thing to get through smoothly. Personally it's the time of year I find myself most annoyed by people trying to push religion on me, and consequently the time I'm most likely to snap on someone for trying to "save" me. Being in a Christian family doesn't help the matter either. Although my family doesn't do anything religious, I still don't enjoy myself much. I hate the idea of giving and receiving gifts. I'm not exactly sure why, but it just seems so materialistic. I much prefer a long conversation with an old friend to a new CD from a local store, and I think there are some better ways to use the money. Are their any atheists out there that celebrate the winter solstice? It's something I've looked into but I'm not exactly sure what to do or if it's even plausible, and I don't want to be a hypocrite by going around yelling "Merry Solstice." "There isn't even certenity that he was born on christmas day." Yeah, I'm pretty sure late December used to be a pagan holiday, and the Christians put Christmas in it's place to compete. Doesn't the bible say when Mary was with child? I thought it was somewhere around September. One question I have is why is Christmas considered a bigger holiday than Easter (at least it seems to be), wouldn't Christ's death be more important than his birth? LOL, that being said, happy holidays to everyone. Here's to family, festivities, and good eggnog. |

| "I'm most likely to snap on someone for trying
to "save" me." I know what you mean but just to clear it up ppl can't save you only Jesus Christ can. "There isn't even certenity that he was born on christmas day." > Everyone should know that ofcourse Jesus was not born exactly on the 25th of December and we could have it in July it makes no real difference it is just stateting that Jesus WAS born.December, for some reason, is just the chosen time to do this. And how can you say how do you know He was born on Christmas day??, duh there was no Christmas day 'till He was born. "One question I have is why is Christmas considered a bigger holiday > than Easter (at least it seems to be), wouldn't Christ's death be > more important than his birth?" Christ's death and reserection is more important but it is not becuase Christians don't Celebrate Easter as much but because non- Christians celebrate Christmas and they hype it up to be what it is not and there not celebrating His birth anyway so thats why Christmas seems bigger. Though His birth still is important. |

| Ok, in regards to when mary was preggers, it doesnt
say in the bible, so it is debateable. As to if christmas is based on a pagan holiday, yes it is. The holiday is originally the day of the festival/celebration of the sun god (i think it was called Solaris, or something like that) to pay tribute to the re-rising of the sun. (in many pagan traditions, the switch from winter to spring is highly celebrated...more on that later if anyone wants to know but basically its all about the resurrection of the God thru his Son..sound familiar?) Anyways, the christians incorporated the holiday into a christian festival/celebration in order to help convert the pagans into christianity because the pagan culture holds their holidays in high regard. Speaking of the winter solstice, that is often referred to as Yule, which is currently celebrated in the pagan cultures as our "winter holiday" which is on dec.21st. bright blessings, 3/4angel ps: i agree that the money could be used on better things than gifts...people today are way toooooooooo materialistic! :( |
