48-page Specials/Sonic Super Specials

Statistics:
Number of Issues:  23
Dates Published:  February 1995 (approximately) – February 2001
Frequency:  Quarterly (approximately)

Background Information:
48-page specials gave readers a different view of the Sonic world or added to the existing Sonic story line.  At first these specials were primarily game adaptations, so each issue had the number one attached to it.  After the "Battle Royal" issue was printed, issues were identified as being a "Sonic Super Special" comic.  After issue #6 (Sonic 50 Director's Cut), each comic was only known as "Sonic Super Special" and had no real title.  (Note:  The titles seen after issue #6 are from the order forms for the comics.)  Issues were typically printed on a quarterly basis, and since they had 48-pages they cost more than a regular comic.  Eventually the cost in producing the comics became too great and Archie Comics stopped printing the specials.
