"Crash of the Titans"
Part I:
Sally calls for Sonic to come as she watches Knuckles on a monitor.
Once Sonic arrives, Sally explains that Knuckles is walking near the edge
of the Great Forest. Sonic knows Knuckles never leaves the Floating
Island, the place where they last fought (in the Sonic Triple Trouble special).
Tails mentions that he met Knuckles' great grandfather (in the Tails mini-series). Sonic knows
that Knuckles is up to no good, and Sally points out that Knuckles is now
at the borders of Robotropolis. Sonic runs away, and Tails bets that
they will soon fight.
Knuckles surveys his environment and believes his ancestors were right
in abandoning technology and becoming more environment-friendly (the story
will be revealed in Sonic the Hedgehog issues 34, 35, and 36). Knuckles recalls
a conversation he had with Mighty the Armadillo when he mentioned that he
saw a Chaos Emerald that was broken in half (from the Sonic Triple Trouble special).
Mighty thinks that it is impossible. Knuckles is determined that the
same won't happen on the island. He tells Mighty that there used to
be a dozen Chaos Emeralds that first raised the island into the sky.
Now only one emerald remains, which bothers Knuckles. Mighty asks
how they can get another one, so Knuckles opens a hidden compartment in
a tree and removes the Book of Myths.
Knuckles reads the book, which explains that Chaos Emeralds are linked
to the magic rings found in zones. The only other place where these
rings are found is in the Lake of Rings. The pond will suddenly glow
and a ring will appear from the surface. Magic rings can be a by-product
of the emeralds or vice versa. Mighty points out that location of
the lake was lost. Knuckles doesn't think so and says that there is
radiation from the lake. He then recalls how Sonic the Hedgehog battles
Robotnik, who lives in a radioactive city. Knuckles thinks that the
radiation may not be from pollution, but the Lake of Rings. And,
if there are rings, there will be a Chaos Emerald.
After telling Mighty to look after the island, Knuckles stops reminiscing.
He sees a pond and an old camera. Knuckles decides to investigate
the pond when he is suddenly hit from behind.
Part II:
Knuckles is ready to fight, and Sonic starts off by reading a paper with
a statement from Princess Sally and the legal department. Knuckles
punches through the paper. Sonic is upset and uses his figure eight
move (first seen in Sonic #25 against
Mecha-Sonic) to knock Knuckles to the ground. As Sonic runs around
a tree, Knuckles grabs one of the tree's roots. The tree moves sideways,
and Sonic's quills are stuck in the tree's trunk. Sonic manages to
uproot the tree and throw it backwards onto Knuckles. Suddenly Sally
appears, and Sonic and Knuckles stop fighting. Sally explains that
there is a lot of radiation coming from a hole where the tree was.
She looks inside the hole and asks Sonic and Knuckles to join her.
Part III:
Sally explains that the hole is a gateway to an unknown zone. Knuckles
is excited and jumps inside. Sally tells Knuckles to stop and then
says he hasn't changed since the summers they used to spend together.
Sonic jumps into the hole and then understands what Sally just said.
He grabs the edge of the hole and asks Sally if she just said she spent
time with Knuckles. Sally says it's not his concern and makes him
go follow Knuckles. As Sonic resumes falling in the hole, he thinks
that Sally cares. Sally watches Sonic disappear and thinks that Sonic
cares.
Sonic sees Knuckles and says that he can easily move faster. Knuckles
tries to grab a Chaos Emerald, but Sonic runs quickly and knocks Knuckles
over. Sonic explains that 50 magic rings and seven Chaos Emeralds
are all that he needs. Sonic transforms into Super Sonic. Knuckles
counts his rings and Chaos Emeralds. He realizes that he only needs
four more rings. As Super Sonic prepares to attack, Knuckles runs
past him to pick up four more rings. Knuckles transforms into Hyper
Knuckles.
Super Sonic is upset, and Hyper Knuckles is mad at Super Sonic's blabbering.
Hyper Knuckles punches Super Sonic and the two begin fighting again.
After a series of punches from Super Sonic and a piece of the zone thrown
directly at Super Sonic, the two charge toward each other.
Super Sonic vs Hyper Knuckles pin-up - 2 pages
Part IV:
Super Sonic and Hyper Knuckles continue to fight, throwing punches and
kicks. Soon the two head toward each other at super speeds.
The energy released from the fight has caused time and space to blend together.
The zone begins to warp until it finally explodes.
A swatbot monitors what it thinks is an earthquake. Robotnik says
that it is not an earthquake and has the swatbot look again. The swatbot
explains that the energy readings are off the scale and what ever is inside
will be lost. When hearing Robotnik's concern, the swatbot asks if
he is worried about the loss of Chaos Emeralds and magic rings. Robotnik
explains that he is upset over the fact that out of the entire 48-page
special he gets a one-page cameo.
Soon Sally appears in front of Sonic. She explains that the zone
was destroyed and there are no emeralds or rings left. Sonic asks
where he is and Sally says he is next to the Lake of Rings where their camera
still works. Sally explains that when Sonic went into the zone she
met up with Tails, who was watching Sonic's progress. They watched
as the zone was destroyed and Sonic and Knuckles were thrown from the zone.
After Sonic landed on the ground, Sally used her sky-cycle to meet up with
him. Sonic tries asking Sally a question, but she says that they should
get back before Robotnik appears. Sonic tries asking another question,
and Sally says that Knuckles was thrown into another direction. She
also tells Sonic to forget her past with Knuckles. Sonic explains
that he was just wondering if they had any chili dogs, and Sally apologizes.
Knuckles lands on the Floating Island. Mighty says that the fight
between Hyper Knuckles and Super Sonic is the talk of the island and that
all of the rings and emeralds disappeared when the zone collapsed.
Knuckles says that his mission was accomplished, revealing a Chaos Emerald.

Knuckles' father explains that soon all of the Floating Island will be
his responsibility. He then takes Knuckles to a secret passage.
The two fall down the shoot and Knuckles falls flat on his behind.
Knuckles sees a glowing gem, and his father explains that the Chaos Emerald
is Knuckles' legacy. The Chaos Emerald has the power to keep the
island floating above Mobius. Knuckles asks if it does anything else.
His father says no and there is only so much he can learn at a time.
For now Knuckles must learn the basics. When he has all of the pieces,
he will be able to understand.
Knuckles stops thinking and realizes that Archimedes speaks like his
father, although his voice is different. He begins to wonder what
it could mean. Knuckles realizes that his thoughts aren't helping
him find the Chaotix (who were captured in the Knuckles' Chaotix special).
He knows that his father would expect him to use his head.
Knuckles' father tells Knuckles to study the situation and then decide
the best action to take. Knuckles says he sees an object flying around.
His father says that they have no idea where it comes from or its intentions.
He asks Knuckles what he should do first. Knuckles says he should
watch the object and see what it does. Knuckles' father agrees and
asks him what to do next. Knuckles says it depends, and suddenly the
object flies up to him. His father asks Knuckles what he will do.
Knuckles says he won't take any chances and punches the object. The
object explodes and Knuckles covers his eyes from the smoke. Knuckles'
father explains that Knuckles forgot one of his most important lessons:
"know your enemy."
Knuckles wishes that he had paid more attention to his father's lessons,
although it was impossible to prepare for everything. He then recalls
what happened when they went to the Forbidden Zone.
Knuckles asks why they are at the Forbidden Zone, and his father explains
that he must perform a task. Knuckles' father continues to say that
if anything happens, Knuckles cannot follow him since he is the only one
that can carry out the duties of a guardian. Knuckles' father jumps
into a wall of energy and disappears.
Knuckles recalls that he stayed still to obey his father's words.
He knew that if his father made sacrifices, then he could do the same.
Knuckles remembers that he would later find new ways to make mistakes,
including getting tricked by Robotnik (in Sonic #13). And,
much to his disappointment, Knuckles had rely on Sonic to save him.
When Sonic later suggested that the Chaotix become a team (from Knuckles' Chaotix special), Knuckles'
pride got in the way. Knuckles says that he didn't want to admit that
he needed to grow up and accept his responsibilities given to him by his
father. He realizes that the answers to some of his questions may
come from Archimedes. Knuckles swears that he will get those answers.
(Preview page - 1 page) Sonic the Hedgehog #34 will be on
sale in March 1996. In May, the first issue of the Knuckles' mini-series
