"The Return of the King"

Part 1:
A royal aircraft lands at Castle Acorn, and our heroes approach King Acorn.  Princess Sally asks why her father is walking around.  King Acorn explains that he has recovered and what was said about dismantling the Robians was nonsense (see Sonic the Hedgehog #55).  The freedom fighters ask the king if they can really trust the Robians.  Even Sonic doubts that he can trust his Uncle Chuck since he lied about his parents.  Sally reminds her father that the Robians' petition to have their own colony was denied and then adds that the Robians will probably rebel.  King Acorn becomes furious, and the crystal covers his face completely.  He orders that all the Robians be dismantled.

Hours later, a royal aircraft carrying the freedom fighters rushes toward the ground.  The ship crashes through a statue and falls to pieces.

Part 2:
The freedom fighters emerge from the wreckage and know that something is wrong.  Sally tries to talk to the guards, but they ignore her.  Sonic runs around one of the guards and catches him up in a tornado.  The guard responds to Sally's questions by explaining that King Acorn and Princess Sally ordered to take apart the Robians.  As a result, the Robians are now trying to escape.  The freedom fighters wonder how they were able to tell the king to take this action while they were on the Floating Island (in Sonic #56 and Knuckles the Echidna #9).  Looking for safety, the freedom fighters rush into an abandoned building.

Part 3:
Tails lights a match and the freedom fighters see the Robians armed with weapons.  Uncle Chuck tells the Robians to be on guard.  Sally tries to reason with Uncle Chuck, but the Robians still want to shoot the freedom fighters.  Before they can shoot, Sonic runs around each Robian and grabs their weapon.  Sonic tells Uncle Chuck that he's never lied to him before and he's not going to start now, especially since the lies hurt Sonic when he found out his parents were alive (in the Brave New World special).  Neither Sonic nor Uncle Chuck know who talked to the king, but they know they must work together.  As Sonic approaches Uncle Chuck, a beam shoots past Sonic and hits Uncle Chuck.

Sonic holds Uncle Chuck's body and soon realizes that he is gone.  Furious, Sonic grabs the Sword of Acorns and points it directly at the guard who shot Uncle Chuck.  Sally tells Sonic to stop, and Sonic's parents appear to also beg Sonic to spare the guard's life.  When Sonic concedes, the Sword of Acorns glows brightly.  Uncle Chuck is healed while the guard realizes that his mind is back to normal.  Sally remarks that it appeared as if the guard was under a spell.  The freedom fighters begin to wonder who could have that kind of power.

Part 4:
In the courtroom inside Castle Acorn, Sonic yells for Ixis Naugus to show himself since Sonic is ready to defeat Ixis again.  Ixis voice says that he never left and has been hiding in Mobotropolis.  King Acorn's body appears from the shadows as Ixis continues to talk.  Ixis explains that he possessed the king when his hatred consumed him, so he will now rule the kingdom.  Sonic removes the Sword of Acorns and a bright light flashes.  The guards nearby regain their memories as Ixis runs away.  Sally and the others catch up to Sonic, who explains that Ixis is heading toward the roof.  On the roof, Ixis says that if Sonic takes another step he will destroy King Acorn.  Sonic prepares to use the Sword of Acorns and calls Ixis a wimp.  Ixis decides that if he cannot rule Mobotropolis, then nobody will.  Ixis makes King Acorn fall off of the roof and Sonic jumps after him.  Sonic manages to grab onto the king's foot and a bright light covers them.

When Sonic regains consciousness, he sees King Acorn looking down at him.  King Acorn helps Sonic to his feet and says that he is no longer possessed.  The Sword of Acorns saved Sonic and the king, although the king is now permanently crystallized.  Sally hugs her father and says she loves him even if he is crystallized.  All eyes turn to the Sword of Acorns, which is jammed in a rock.  King Acorn pulls the sword from the rock, and a bright light engulfs him.  When the light disappears, King Acorn is restored to his original form, and the Crown of Acorns rests on his head.  The Crown of Acorns (which resided in the Hall of Limbo) was actually in the king's mind.

"Down & out in Downunda!"

Everyone is gathered at the campfire, and Sonic and Sally say that they want to hear how Bunnie and Antoine escaped from the prison camp in Downunda (from the End Game series, Sonic #47-48-49-50).  Bunnie and Antoine begin to tell their story.

Deep in a crater Bunnie, Antoine, Walt, and Barby are held prisoner by Crocbot.  Crocbot has begun its revenge from when it was thrown into the crater (during the Tails mini-series).  Bunnie has been rigged with a device that will activate an explosion from Antoine's collar if she uses her robotic appendages.  When Crocbot leaves, Bunnie pulls her normal arm from her shackle.  She tries to free Antoine, but she cannot remove his collar without sharp tools.  Barby shows off her sharp claws.

As Antoine pleads for Bunnie to leave the collar alone, an explosion blows the cell door off of its hinges.  A combot inspects the cell and reports to Crocbot that the prisoners are dead.  Crocbot mentions that it still has three other prisoners to torture and then orders the combot to go to the loading dock.  Up above, Bunnie uses the jets in her legs to float as her comrades hang on to her robotic arm.

After destroying the combot, the group decides to head to the loading dock.  When countless combots are destroyed, the other three members of the Downunda Freedom Fighters are free.  Outside, Crocbot watches as the combots load the airbus. Crocbot also places a mini thermo-nuclear time bomb inside a combot, giving it orders to place the device inside Robotnik's war room.  Suddenly a voice yells at Crocbot, who turns around to discover that the Downunda Freedom Fighters are free.  Barby says that although Crocbot may have killed Antoine and Bunnie, it can't get rid of the freedom fighters.  Crocbot orders for some combots to head for Robotropolis while the others stay and fight.  Walt tells Bunnie and Antoine that they will not attack the airbus so they can secretly board it.  Antoine explains that they will be able to return home to help the others.

The Downunda Freedom Fighters attack the combots as Bunnie and Antoine make their way inside of the airbus.  After ducking for cover in a room, Bunnie accesses one of Robotnik's personal files to learn about the Ultimate Annihilator and the ore on the airbus that will power the device.  Antoine says they must destroy the ship even if they are still on it.  Bunnie decides to take a different course of action and searches for power sources.  A combot's schematics are accessed, and Bunnie notices that there is something hidden inside.

As the airbus begins to land in Robotropolis, a combot leaves the control room.  Antoine teases the combot and then runs around the corner where Bunnie waits for him.  The combot follows, and Bunnie tears it to pieces.  Bunnie takes the time bomb, ready to place it inside of Robotnik's control room.  The airbus lands, and Bunnie decides to use her jets to take her and Antoine over to some beams to hide.

Now that their story is finished, everyone cheers for Bunnie and Antoine.  Hershey rushes up to them with a postcard from the Downunda Freedom Fighters.  The postcard explains that they defeated Crocbot, freeing Downunda.  Sally proposes a toast to everyone trying to help keep Mobius free.
