A mission turned for the worst when it appeared that Sonic the Hedgehog sent Princess Sally to her death.  King Acorn later sentenced Sonic to life in prison at the Devil's Gulag.  While en route, the plane crashed, and Sonic escaped to prove his innocence.  King Acorn ordered Geoffrey St. John to find Sonic.  Robotnik has now made his presence known, and it appears that King Acorn has given the freedom fighters to their enemy.  As the freedom fighters come to grips with reality, Sonic finds himself trapped between Geoffrey St. John and Angora Falls.

Sonic dives off the cliff and tries to do his figure eight move.  His legs begin to cramp, and Sonic realizes that he is going to die.  Suddenly, Sonic remembers that he wanted to try a trick.  He takes the soil from the inside of his shoe and throws it toward the land.  Sonic quickly runs on the strip of land and manages to make it to the shore.  Geoffrey St. John and his men make their way through the cave, knowing that they can still catch Sonic.  Sonic begins to walk away, telling himself that he must prove his innocence.

At Knothole, Robotnik says that Sonic betrayed them and the king has been loyal.  He then reveals that King Acorn was nothing more than a robot.  Robotnik tells the freedom fighters that he wants to see them perish along with the other non-robotic Mobians.  The freedom fighters will be allowed to live until Robotnik's newest and most powerful weapon is operational.  Everyone will be destroyed, including the real King Acorn.

Meanwhile, Doctor Quack confronts Snively in Robotropolis.  Doctor Quack gives Snively the death certificate of Princess Sally and demands that Snively hold up his end of the bargain.  A door slides and Doctor Quack's family is seen behind bars.  Doctor Quack rushes to his family and then threatens Snively.  A combot shoots Doctor Quack, who says Robotnik promised that his family would be freed if the documents were falsified.  Snively helps Doctor Quack to his feet and says that the next favor involves his new patient:  the real King Acorn.  Snively reminds Doctor Quack to follow his instructions exactly for the sake of his family.

Sonic wonders how long this ordeal is going to "drag on," which gives him an idea.  Sonic makes his vocal cords vibrate to create a high pitched whistle.  Dulcy appears and Sonic says he would never hurt Sally and that he needs her help.  Dulcy says that dragons can tell when somebody tells the truth, so she agrees to help Sonic.  As Dulcy flies into the sky, Geoffrey St. John appears and promises to follow Sonic.

Back at Hershey's cottage, Hershey is concerned over the death of Sally.  Drago says that she was the one that killed Sally.  Hershey says that it was impossible since Drago told her that she was helping the freedom fighters and that Snively was the one climbing down a rope.  Drago tells Hershey to put on the head of her Sonic costume.  When Hershey puts on the mask, she is shocked to find Snively staring at her in the mirror.  She turns to Drago only to find that he looks like Snively.  Drago explains that the eyepieces have "optic image refractors" so that no matter who Hershey looks at, she will always see Snively.  Drago says that Robotnik will reward him with a kingdom that Robotnik conquers as Hershey sobs on the floor.

In the crater at Downunda, Bunnie and Antoine are escorted to their prison chamber.  Bunnie is wearing a collar alarm.  If she uses her robotic arm or legs, the alarm will activate the explosive device in Antoine's collar.  Once inside the chamber, Walt Wallabee and Barby Koala introduce themselves.  Suddenly Crocbot appears and says that after Tails and Guru Emu made him crash into the crater, he managed to rebuild his body and found components from the wreckage of the supply blimp to build an army of robots that are similar to combots.  Crocbot then captured the Downunda freedom fighters and have enjoyed torturing them ever since.  His plan is to send their remains to Tails to get him to return.

Meanwhile, Dulcy tries to wake up Sonic and tells him that they are at the Floating Island.  Once Dulcy lands, Knuckles says that nobody can visit without permission and punches Dulcy.  Sonic says that Knuckles just attacked the gentlest creature on Mobius and hits Knuckles.  Knuckles manages to flip himself around to punch Sonic.  Before the two can begin fighting, Geoffrey St. John parachutes towards the ground and tells Knuckles to back off since Geoffrey must stop Sonic.
