The Grunge Revolution continued... PART III - THE END OF AN ERA By 1994 the grunge revolution was in full swing with Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam leading the way. Things on the surface seemed like they were going well, but as the Genre beceame more popular, true grunge fans who were in the scene became increasingly disillusioned. The blame game had started. Bands like Stone Temple Pilots were branded as "sell outs" and were considered by many to have just dropped in on the hype. One of the major leaders of the Grunge Revolution, Pearl Jam, took a step back from the spotlight. They refused to promote their new CD, V.S., thus protecting their image and maintaining their fan base. Meanwhile Kurt Cobain was having problems of his own. After a drug overdose in Rome, Cobain came home to admit himself to rehab. Three days later he jumped a wall and returned to seattle.

Well, we all know how this story ends. There's no point in over-dramatizing it. Kurt Cobain alone, began and sadly ended The Grunge Revolution. With the absense of Pearl Jam and Nirvana, record companies began scouring the nation for radio friendly grunge bands. The market quickly became saturated with fakes like Bush who cared nothing for the punk rock ethics that had been so strongly imposed by Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
Considered by many to be the last remaining grunge band, Soundgarden, finaly called it quits in 1997, citing that the band had grown apart from each other musicly. It is unlikely that we will ever be able to return to this era again. All we can do is reminisce about the good old days when music was celebrated for quality and honesty, not because the band's lead vocalist has a new facial hair styling.
Bands like Silverchair, who were hardly "angry at the world" further shamed the basis upon which grunge was founded, specificly, the idea of independence from lables and punk with melody.
Special thanks to VH1 , Spin, Sub Pop Records, and all of the various fan sites from which I aquired information, for their help on making this instalment.
