Two freshmen of Philippine Science High School Western Visayas came home from China last August beaming with pride as they earned a bronze each at China Mathematics Quiz.
Glenn Grecia, I-Jade, and John Alfred Yap, I-Ruby, received a cash prize of P2,500 each from the school in recognition of their exemplary performance in the said competition sponsored by the Mathematics Trainers' Guild. The cash prizes were given during the first card giving day last August.
Grecia and Yap underwent various competitive examinations in math at various levels while elementary school pupils before representing the country in the said competition.
Grecia graduated from West Visayas State University Integrated Laboratory School- Elementary while Yap is a graduate of the Assumption Convent- Iloilo.
Two years ago, Kristina Lim, now III-Beryllium, was the only Filipino to win a gold medal in the Third Primary Math World Competition held in Hong Kong. It was also sponsored by the MTG.
Meanwhile, Mark Alvin Bayag, I-jade and Patricia Marie Avila, also topped the Division of Iloilo City MTG examination given to first year students from different high schools.
The examination aims to identify students for training in mathematics to be conducted by MTG.
