If the school continues to consume at least P80 thousand for its power consumption per month, it is going to face a budget deficit of not less than P200,000 at the end of the year.
In a memo dated August 20, the school's administrative officer Mr. Reynaldo Lulu disclosed that as of July this year, the school paid an amount of P83,789.30 to PECO for its electricity.
He further said that the actual electrical consumption has reached 58% or P389,854.78 of P666,666.67, the total budget earmarked for water, light and power.
Mr. Lulu appealed to the faculty, staff and students to observe austerity measures. Even as he invoked the DOST administrative order #003 which enjoins all its agencies to adopt austerity measures.
He further said that the school has to reduce its electrical consumptions to P39 thousand/month in order to meet the budget.
But if we really cannot effect a radical reduction, then we are constrained to ask for realignment.
As of press time, the request for an alignment of ______ has already been approved by the DBM.
Even with the realignment, the total amount would not suffice if the total electrical consumption remains this higher.
This reduction to electrical consumption however, is unrealistic, according to Dr. Josette T. Biyo, coordinator of the SMT.
"Since we are a science high school, we cannot afford to sacrifice instruction," she said.
The school is maintaining a computer laboratory, which houses the Internet. In addition, certain laboratory equipment used by the students in their experiments and researches are electrically operated.
In view of the current problem, the school, through the student services division headed by Mrs. Evaline Rose Gerochi, has revised the power rate for student and faculty interns.
