More schools benefit
from outreach program

PAG-ULIKID 2001. Ms. Rowena Magno, biology teacher, looks on as a pupil shows to the class a chemical to be used in science experiment as part of the outreach program activity.

More public elementary school pupils benefited from PSHSWV's outreach program this year.

According to Dr. Josette T. Biyo, chairman of the Research and Extension Committee, Pag-ulikid 2001, school's outreach activity, was able to serve pupils from different schools in four consecutive Saturdays, October 6-27, 2001.

This year, PSHSWV established four Pag-ulikid centers, namely, Janiuay Central School, Guimbal Central School, and Barotac Nuevo Elementary Central School in Iloilo province, and Jordan Elementary Central School in Guimaras. Each school admitted at least 100 sixth graders.

The program was formally opened and closed by a short ceremony conducted simultaneously in four centers by the teachers. Top five scorers in each Pag-ulikid center were given recognition to end the program.

Earlier last year, the program was housed at the Doņa Lawaan H. Lopez Campus here in Jaro, while the Mosqueda Campus was the venue two years ago. The program was then known as Tulong-Dunong.

Now on its third year, the program aims to increase the number of provincial qualifiers in the National Competitive Examination. The sessions covered reviews on science, mathematics, verbal and non-verbal subjects.

PSHSWV teachers administered the program, specializing reviews in their respective fields. They were distributed to different Pag-ulikid centers to work in.

Also with the teachers are the different cooperating clubs, namely, CARE, Sci-Probe, Math Club and Student Alliance, represented by their respective advisers and officers. The Student Alliance, to share its resources with the recipients, donated ten reams of groundwood paper as instruction materials for the program.

"Hopefully, we shall be conducting the same program next year," Dr. Biyo pointed out.
