Visitors No Show in Humanities

What could have been a big bang turned out to be a fizz when invited visitors did not come to participate in the 2001 Dias de Humanidades held Oct. 15 and 16.

"We were expecting bigger visitor turn out this year because we sent out more invitations than we did last year," remarked Mr. John Arnold S. Siena, Humanities head.

Only Mandurriao Elementary School and Filipino-American School Town came on the first day and only Bito-on Elementary School on the second day.

It was learned later that the failure was due to conflict in schedules as most of schools were giving their second quarter exams. Moreover, the heavy rain discouraged some to go.

The celebration, which was started last year, featured exhibits, presentations and interactive games designed for elementary and high school students. It originally aimed to unify in one celebration all subject area activities under the humanities unit.

"Although we trimmed down on some activities, still our preparation could also have benefited our visitors," said Social Science teacher Ms. Lea Salinel.

The celebration, with the theme "Humanities for Humanity," closed with a Finale at the gymnasium, showcasing the best presentations from all subject areas witnessed by Bito-on pupils. The presentations included skits from English, Filipino, Soc.Sci. and song numbers from the PEHM group.

The students' participation was voluntary and they chose their own area to work in. They must, however, ensure that the subject area did not close enlisting because of the quota system.

All participating students were given bonus points for their class participation.

"Probably next year, we shall be revising certain aspects of our celebration that includes the schedule considerations," Mr. Siena said.
