In response to feedback that the PSHS curriculum is too heavy, the PSHS system has shortened the class period to 50-minutes from the usual one-hour.
Dr. Ramon Miranda, the newly appointed executive director of the PSHS system, upon consultation with the various sectors such as the parents and the alumni, also directed the seven PSHS campuses to reduce the content of the different subject areas. This is to adjust with the reduction of the contact period in all subject areas.
"This move will provide the students more time to do research and accomplish their requirements. At the same time, it will allow the teacher to deepen their treatment of the subject matter," Mr. Edgar Almero, CISSD Chief of PSHSWV said.
He also added that this will also give the teacher more time to do non-classroom talks.
"The problem is, sometimes, we can't finish the lesson. There is no enough time for long tests," said Gelvin Velasco of IV-Tau in reaction to the new regulation.
Meanwhile, the system is also currently reviewing the entire curriculum.
According to Mr. Almero, the system has assigned subject coordinators to gather suggestions and comments from all PSHS campuses.
Subject coordinators from PSHSWV campus are Mr. Roy Pacaco (PEHM), Mrs. Eilleen Ocampo (VE), Mr. Gilbert Andres (Physics), and Mr. John Arnold Siena (English).
All these efforts are part of the system's program to set the standard for all PSHS campuses, the first of which was the harmonization of the curriculum, which was started two years ago.
