Who says outstanding work is not rewarded?
On the occasion of its 9th Foundation Celebration, Philippine Science High School Western Visayas honored its alumni, parents and teachers for their meritorious achievements and contribution to the school.
At the opening program held June 30, the school gave recognition to alumni Amadeo Biter, Edgel Bayag, Rocsildes Canoy, Demy Catedral and Mario Antonio Jiz for their excellent academic performance in college.
Biter graduated magna cum laude while Bayag, Catedral and Jiz graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman where they finished their Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology last April.
Canoy, finished his BS Math from the same university cum laude.
All of them are members of the pioneering batch 1997.
Rodelen Paccial, batch 1998, was cited for being the first alumnus to come back to his alma mater to render his services as faculty member.
Two parents were also honored during the opening program. Atty. Angelo S.C. Aninao was cited for his pioneering spirit as president of the Parents-Teachers Association. Under his leadership, the PTA was able to realize projects that will have an impact on the welfare of the students.
Mr. Lorenzo Locara, as chairman of the PSHSWV Multi-Purpose Cooperative, gave direction to the management and operation of the cooperative after it suffered losses. He also served as consultant for the various projects of the school.
Faculty members Dr. Josette T. Biyo, current head of the Science, Mathematics and Technology Unit, was given recognition for graduating her Doctor of Philosophy (Biology) with highest distinction from De La Salle University Manila.
Eilleen Ocampo, Yz Barrientos and Alan Cabalfin were also given recognition for their outstanding accomplishment in short film-making. Their respective films won awards and/or nominations conferred by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and other award-giving bodies in the national level.
The Foundation Day was also highlighted by the all-faculty and staff cast performance of a morality play "Everyman."
Directed by Ms. Barrientos, the play earned positive reviews from parents, students and guests.
