Varsolo Sunio of IV - Graviton shared a silver medal in the Third Invitational World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition held at Tagaytay City June 8-12.
Sunio, who scored 58 in the Chinese-dominated math competition, was among the 26 silver medallists.
Sunio's teammates, namely, Kristina Lim (III - Beryllium), Chris Daniel Nabiong (IV - Tau), and Sanny Mark Cunanan (IV - Tau) were also awarded merit medals.
Shanghai, China ruled the competition followed by Kaoshiung Team, Southern Region of Taiwan, Metro Manila Team 12 and Metro Manila Team 9 in that order.
Even in the team competitions where competing teams were divided into five groups, Chinese teams emerged champions with MM teams trailing either as second or third placers.
In Group A where PSHSWV Team belonged, Middle Taiwan Team came in first, followed by Shanghai China and Metro manila Team 12.
Groups B, C, D and E were dominated by Hong Kong China Team I, Hong Kong China Team 2, Chiu Chang Team and Beijing China, respectively.
PSHSWV and Zamboanga Teams are the Philippine provincial groups who harvested the greatest number of medals.
The PSHSWV Team, the only team from Iloilo city and province invited to the said competition was led by Mr. Jose Ariel Serrato and Mrs. Virginia Barlas, both Math teachers.
It can be recalled that Lim was awarded Gold Medal in the same competition in Hong Kong three years ago.
