WATER
In Poblacion, the main source of water is provided by LWUA (Local Water Utilities Administration) thru Sta. Maria Water District. However, some of the residents also have artesian well with jetmatic or jack pumps installed. The barangays get their water supply from artesian wells or deepwells except barangay San Gabriel which now has its own pumping station constructed thru Brangay Water Works Programs (BWP).
Of the 17,479 households, 3,721 are with owned faucets, 3,234 with shared faucets (Community Water System), 4,132 with tubed/piped shallow wells and 88 with deepwells. Only 10 households get their supply from water peddlers.
POWER
The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) serves the energy needs of Sta. Maria. Based on the 1990 NSO census, all twenty-four (24) barangays of the town are already with electrical installations availed by 16,401 households. Of the households that have no electrical connections, 743 use kerosene (gaas), 315 use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), 9 use oil and 11 use other means.
Power facilities and services are quite efficient except for the accurence of occasional brown-outs especially during typhoons. |
