GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION AND AREA

The municipality of Sta. Maria consisting of 24 barangays has a land area of about 9,092 hectares. It is twenty-two (22 km.) kilometers north of Manila and is located  at he eastern part of the province. Bounded on the north by Pandi and Angat, on the east by Norzagaray and a portion of San Jose Del Monte, on the south by San Jose del Monte, and on the west by Marilao and Bocaue, it is 18 kilometers from Malolos (Provincial Capital) and 38 kilometers from San Fernando, Pampanga (Regional Center).

Sta. Maria's land area is 2.93% of the area of Bulacan province.

CLIMATE

Sta. Maria belongs to a climate first type which is defined as moist sub-humid with a 0 to 20 percent moisture index and with rain sufficiently distributed.

The prevailing climate conditions in the municipality is categorized into two (2) types: dry and wet season. Its temperature falls at 18
oC for its coolest month. The dry months are from January to April. Precipitation during these months is less because of the thermodynamic effects of Sierra Madre Mountain that prevent the prevailing easternly winds blow to produce rainfall in its leeward side. It should be noted that Sta. Maria is a leeward of the Sierra Madre Mountain.

Sta. Maria's most precipitable months starts from May, has it maximum in August and gradually decreases until December. During these months, thunderstorms and rain showers causes precipitation in May and June while the rest is primarily due to the southeast monsoon that prevails on these particular part of the year. Others like that of November and December are caused by tropical cyclones that pass through this area.

TEMPERATURE

The annual mean temperature in the area is 27.7
oC. The warmest month is May with a mean temperature of 29.9oC while the coldest is January at 25.2oC.

RELATIVE HUMIDITY

The mean annual relative humidity in the area is 77% which is not high. The mean monthly relative humidity is lowest in March at 64% and highest is September at 84%.
