Sta. Maria distinct advantage over other municipalities of Bulacan , being the heartland of Luzon and the gateway of Metro Manila contributes largely to its fast development. The municipality is slowly shifting from agricultural to semi-industrialized municipality due to the coming in of investments specifically manufacturing industries. This because Sta. Maria is more or less 22 kilometers north of Metro Manila and almost 2 hours drive from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. And the major port harbors of Metro Manila. This makes it easier to transport goods both by land and air transfortation. Its well-paved roads also contribute to its easy access of transporting products to other places.
The presence of numerous business establishments in the municipality is one of the biggest factors of the inflocks of population in the municipality. The population growth rate the municipality estimated at 3.20% is even higher than the national growth rate. Thus, there is a continuing increase in the delivery of basic services at all sectors that required allocation of more funds to satisfy service requirements of the contituents.
