Education is given top most priority in Sta. Maria. The town is proud of its 55 schools of which 34 are public and 21 are private. Among the private schools, 3 offer pre-school course, 18 offer complete elementary course and 8 offer secondary course, and 2 offer tertiary education. Of the public schools, 11 offer primary, 16 offer complete elementary, 3 offer secondary and 1 of courses in Agricultural Technology and Agriculture.
Educational Attainments

The 1995 survey among Sta. Maria residents with ages five years old and over showed that 2,952 finished pre-school; 16,048 finished grades I-IV; 22,356 finished grades I-VII; 11,476 attended but didn't finish high school; and 14,537 completed high school; 6,502 were college indergraduates; and 7,246 were college graduates, graduate studies, 155 and not stated 194.
