Cornelius
(Richard)
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Mummy. Little is known about Cornelius insofar as who he is, only what he wants. He recently arrived in the city, with a score to settle: 245 years ago, Sir Daniel Fortesque, a vampire of Clan Tzimisce, killed Cornelius mortal lover, an Egyptian woman named Sietarra. Cornelius is now focused solely on pure vengeance, in as long and cruel a manner as he can possibly conceive. This personal crusade has led him to the city of Maiden Newton, so that he can plan and exact his revenge on Fortesque, who has been linked with the city for over a decade and has ruled it for the past six months. But now he is furious, as it seems that Fortesque has escaped his clutches by being promoted within the Sabbat, and he has left the city. Cornelius still wants Fortesque to suffer, but now, in light of this new twist in events, he has broadened his plot, and will not rest now until every last vampire in the city that owes allegiance to Fortesque is burning in Hell. This desire for bloodshed has now been greatly increased after Fortesque sent the Pack of the White Van, led by Bishop Jemma, to kill Cornelius. The mummy retaliated by using a sacred artefact on Jemma, turning her mortal again, and this forced the enemy back, for now. But Cornelius now knows that Fortesque wants all-out war, and he is quoite prepared to give it to him. This has been proved by the Hunter attacks against the  Sabbat and the Temple, for which Cornelius claimed complete responsibility.

A few weeks later, the Sabbat came by documentation linking Cornelius with the
Quicksilver corporation; indeed it became clear that Sebastian Ford, the company's CEO, was just a mortal front for the Reborn. Quicksilver was also, it appeared, responsible for the production of the Hunters. Therefore, Fortesque ordered both Packs to infiltrate the building, one to take down Cornelius, and the other to destroy the Hunters. Cornelius escaped the conflict, having first explained to the Sabbat about Sietarra, but through Fortesque's efforts, Ford was removed from the Quicksilver board of governors, severing Cornelius' link with the corporation.

Cornelius was far from finished, however. Just a fortnight after his expulsion from Quicksilver, he cast an elaborate spell that shifted all the Cainites of the city into a 'temporal pocket', otherwise known as an alternate reality, and then proceeded to arrange for all their ghouls to fall into a carefully constructed trap, the purpose of which was so he could give them an ultimatum - they arrange for Fortesque to be handed over to him, or he kill them all.

After an unlikely ally captured Fortesque and
handed him over, Cornelius began an elaborate spell to resurrect Sietarra by killing her murderer and 're-writing' history so that the murder never took place. However, the knock-on effect that the consequences of this spell would have were so great and potentially devestating that the Sabbat resolved to stop the spell. Grand Inquisitor Anthony Livingstone was able to perform a ritual that transformed Cornelius into 'True Cornelius' - the original guise and form of the mummy, from ancient Egypt. In doing so, Cornelius was transformed into mortal form, allowing Fortesque, using Livingstone's sword, to destroy his enemy and finally end the troubles that Cornelius had caused both him personally, and the city's Sabbat as a whole.

Or so it seemed. For some months later, it what appeared to be Cornelius returned from the dead, in a new incarnation. Now back in the city and seeking vengeance against the Sabbat of Maiden Newton, and particularly against Sir Daniel Fortesque, Cornelius having lost everything already joined forces with the Abomination
London, and set about continuing the fulfilment of the Armageddon Prophecy. His first task in this was unleashing a series of explosions and bombs in and around the Quicksilver building, an effort that turned the bulk of the industrial sector of the city into a raging inferno. Even after the destruction of London, Cornelius remained focussed on the only thing left in his eternal life fulfilling the prophecy and bringing about Hell on Earth.

However, this too failed, as he was unable to kill
Gynander, who was by then in the protective fold of Cardinal Drad and the Sabbat capital of York. Thus, Cornelius decided to try different tactics, and joined the Alliance, offering it a means of slaying The Beast - the evil, destructive adolescent persona of Hope - with the knowledge that killing The Beast would fulfil the prophecy instantly. As it turned out, the Alliance - specifically, the Samedi Guile - did indeed destroy The Beast and therefore fulfil the prophecy. In his moment of elation, Cornelius agreed to do for Points what he had once done to Jemma, and he made the Malkavian antitribu mortal again. However, Points' 'pet', the strange cat Quiche, was for some reason extremely angry about this, and so it swallowed Cornelius whole. The mummy, however, with his many protectiomn spells, remains trapped but unharmed, and seems to now have all the time in the world to find a way out of this odd, and frankly embarrassing, predicament. One thing is for sure - even with the annihilation of Lord Arrakon and a permanent end to the prophecy, Cornelius may be down, but is certainly not out - not by a long shot.
