Rivalry Week

(Week 4) The greatest rivalry in Puck's World Fantasy Football League continued this week when the undefeated Kalamazoo Vikings hosted the slumping Seattle Slimy Slugs for their only meeting in the regular season this year. Dispite being 1-3 in the last four meetings with arch-rival Seattle, Kalamazoo came out with a huge victory this week beating the Slugs 136-101.

The top story coming out of the game was the exceptional play of ex-Slug Randy Moss. Moss was acquired this offseason by the Vikings in a trade with Seattle. Moss was tired of playing second fiddle to Marvin Harrison, who also had a big day, and wanted a chance to make the big money as the #1 reciever. He didn't disappoint Viking fans, who had long dreaded seeing Moss's monster numbers on the other side of the stat sheet but now loved his big play ability. Moss put up a near record 34 points and now tops all wide recievers in total points this season.

Slug President Jabin watched the game from Puck's skybox at Hostess Park and was noticably uncomfortable as Moss was dragging in his three TD's from Marc Bulger. All was not lost however, as the Slugs attempted to mount a comeback on the shoulders of Marving Harrison late in the 4th quarter.

After the loss to Kalamazoo, sources within the Slug offices have reported that the atmosphere is getting very tense. The offseason trades that were made left the Slugs very thin at runningback and it showed when Faulk went down with a month long injury last week. Owner Jabin has been vocal about his displeasure with his scouting staff and if the Slugs fail to reach the playoffs for the second year in a row, there may be some heads on the chopping block.

"I thought that the Curtis Martin trade was one thing, but the Moss trade has now costed us the most important game of the regular season for us," Slug Head Scout Sly M. Escargo, "Kalamazoo was a tough opponant and we were hoping to make a statement to them and the league that the Slug Nation is still running strong. We'll have to take our frustrations out on the champs instead."

Seattle faces Rhode Island next week which looks to be another stellar matchup on paper. Kalamazoo looks forward to entering Sibling rivalry with an ailing quarterback as the Vikings face the Timbuktu Buccaneers.

Rhode Island 109, Wisconsin 86
This game looked to be over after the early games as Wisconsin had a big lead over the Puck Bowl IV Champions. But the Wannabe's streak of bad luck was bound to continue as Peyton Manning took the field and threw six TD passes en route to breaking the all-time single game record for quarterbacks. Wisconsin still had a chance going into the Monday night game as long as Booker posted respectable numbers and Ridicule Thomas did his usual unimpressive showing. Both were not the case. Thomas had a big game and Booker continued his disappointing season.

Rhode Island has another tough matchup in week 5 when they take on the steaming Seattle Slimy Slugs. Wisconsin looks to finally get win number one against fellow playoff participant Rocko.

Benton Harbor 57, W. Palm Beach 32
The W. Palm Beach Chads had an impressive start to the season, but things have taking a tragic turn for the worst with the loss of Clinton Portis for the past couple weeks. This week was not an execption as the Chads seemed to be totally lost out on the field this week and it showed up on the scoreboard, with the second lowest score in league history (of teams that submitted a full lineup). The Hoodlems didn't have too great of a week either, as they left a couple big producers on the bench. Benton Harbor was still glad to come out of week 4 with a victory heading into their matchup with the surprisingly strong Green Bay Fudgepackers. The Chads look to be the underdogs for the first time since week one when they face Detroit.

Green Bay 106, Timbuktu 69
It is much too early to call them a playoff team yet, but the Green Bay Fudgepackers are starting to put things together and the comparisions to the 2002 Rocko Bengals are starting to show up in underground newsletters. Timbuktu was trying desperately to try to put together a full lineup against the Fudgepackers this week, as they signed Larry Centers off the free agent wire to be one of their starting runningbacks. All of the regular Buccaneers should be back from their vacation just in time to take on the #1 team in the land, the Kalamazoo Vikings, in week 5. Green Bay looks to continue their quest for their first playoff spot when they take on the Hoodlems of Benton Harbor.

Detroit 80, England 76
The Drive-Teasers rivarly has been one sided in their short history together in PWFFL. The Teasers won both of the matchups last year, making Owner Bob circle this one week as their most important game of the season. The Drive did not disappoint as when the game was on the line late Sunday night, Detroit sent E. Conwell up the middle to produce huge points for the TE and kept pace with England stud, McAllister. The great way he handled and optimized his team earned the Drive his first ever Coach of the Week honors.

Rocko 88, N. Michigan 76
Sometimes it's still amazing to see an eight year old with the command of a fantasy football team to string together wins against people 3, 4, and even 5 times her age. The Rocko Bengals have stayed with the pack so far this season, but the Yoopers are no longer the easy win they used to be. N. Michigan has slowly been improving their team and posted a franchise record 76 points this week against the Bengals. Their optimal score of 94 shows the story that the Yoopers are starting to be a force in this league, if his players can continue to improve the way they have. A good test will come next week, as the Yoopers will take on the Teasers who are very close to N. Michigan in total points scored for the season. Rocko looks forward to facing the unlucky Wannabes.

Coach of the Week: Detroit Drive
Player of the Week: Peyton Manning (QB-RI)
