Late Night Sliming
(Week 5) The game of the week between Puck Bowl IV Champion Rhode Island and two-time champion Seattle did not disappoint this week. Seattle mounted a very late comeback on the arm of Brad Johnson and hands of Marvin Harrison to clinch thier third victory of the season 100-93.
After disappointing games from most of his crew, the Slugs knew that they were going to have to throw it a lot in order to have a chance against the Ridicule. "I just tossed it up in the air and Marvin (Harrison) just ran under it to score," Slug Quarterback Brad Johnson said after the game, "Rhode Island is a tough team, they had us on the ropes the whole game but got relaxed near the end and we took advantage of their prevent defense."
The Ridicule were disappointed that they didn't get the win, but was very optimistic afterwards. "We are better off than we were at this point last year and we're holding onto the Bribin Cup right now," said owner Libzie, "Our players did well and our coach (who won coach of the week honors) did an excellent job making sure we had the best players on the field, we just got beat by a good team today."
Rhode Island is gearing up to play Timbuktu next week, a team that has always given the Ridicule problems. Seattle hopes that they can continue their winning ways against the Rocko Bengals, who are coming off a tough loss this week.
Kalamazoo 132, Timbuktu 64
Vikings owner, Puck, spent most of the week boasting how his team wasn't going to need a quarterback to beat the Buccaneers and backed up his claims with an impressive victory over Timbuktu while all his quarterbacks sat on the bench. Timbuktu was fuming after the game making wild comments about unfair advantages and overstacked teams. The Bucs look to take their frustrations out on the Ridicule next week. As for the Vikings, Puck has already started with intimidating Benton Harbor, their next opponant, with their backed up smack.
Wisconsin 73, Rocko 55
The Wannabes got their first win of the season against the Bengals despite getting poor play out of their star back Priest Holmes. Wisconsin got it done with their recievers, as both Dante Hall and Marty Booker put up impressive numbers. The Bengals have been plagued all year with poor runningback play and going into this week without their best player, Holt, thing did not look good for the former playoff competator. Rocko looks to bounce back against the Slugs, but it doesn't look promising with the way Seattle has stepped up their game in recent weeks. Wisconsin, with their luck seemingly back on board, takes on the improving, but not meanicing, Yoopers.
W. Palm Beach 99, Detroit 87
After a mini slump mainly caused by missing their best player the past couple weeks, W. Palm Beach got back to winning at the expense of Detroit. The Chads used a power running attack with huge games out of Portis and the "other" Ricky Williams. The Defense stepped up their game, limiting Detroit's wide recievers to under nine points apiece. Detroit played a good game, but came up just short. The Drive will have a tough game next week against Green Bay, making a return to the win column not a sure thing. The Chads are heavily favored over the England Teasers, who have found a way to win despite having one of the lowest scoring teams in the league.
Green Bay 74, Benton Harbor 67
The Fudgepackers continue to win. Period. This game was plague with some of the poorest coaching of the week, but was one of the few games that could have gone either way this week. Green Bay looks to continue their Cinderella season with a win over Detroit next week. Things don't look good for Benton Harbor as they have to travel to first place Kalamazoo next weekend.
England 79, N. Michigan 72
This was a close game throughout the weekend and seems to have come down to Jeremy Shockey's big game to clinch it for the England Teasers. The Yoopers have been making themselves quite a problem for their opponants, putting together close games but coming up just short. One of these weeks the Yoopers will explode and they'll net their second win of the season.
Coach of the Week: Rhode Island Ridicule
Player of the Week: David Boston (WR-Kal)
