Lord of the Cups: Return of the Vi-King

VS

Kalamazoo Vikings 144, Seattle Slimy Slugs 132
[12.23.03] Pontiac, MI: The Puck Bowl returned to a familiar matchup that brought the league into the high status it holds today. The Kalamazoo Vikings, the winningest franchise in PWFFL history took on their arch-rival and the two-time Bribin Cup champion Seattle Slimy Slugs. Everyone knew that this would be a great matchup before the game, but even the most seasoned veterans were not prepared for what happened during the Puck Bowl.

Kalamazoo entered the championship game with the only undefeated record (12-0-2) in the history of all PWFSI events, could the Vikings complete the impossible and add a championship? Or would the Seattle Slimy Slugs continue to be the only team to win multiple championships adding a unprecidented third Bribin Cup.

The game started early Saturday at the neutral site of the Pontiac Silverdome. Both teams started their air assault early with both quarterbacks putting up 20+ points. Randy Moss, the ex-Slug now playing for the Vikings, was on the recieving end of most of Culpepper's passing puting him into the 20+ category also. At the end of the first quarter of play, Kalamazoo was up 53-31.

In the second day of the game, Seattle owner Jabin decided the shake up the original starting lineup of the Slugs. With George underproducing and this looking to be a high scoring contest, the Slugs decided to bench the former K-Viking in favor of PWFFL rookie DeShaun Foster. This proved to be a very crafty move on Seattle's part as George threw a fit on the bench and did not produce to Puck Bowl standards of the past. After the early games on Sunday and disappointing outcomes from a couple of the Vikings players, Seattle had taken the lead 100-97 with just a quarter to play in the Puck Bowl.

The last quarter of the Puck Bowl saw the Slugs save their big guns for last. The Slug MVP for the 2003 season Tomlinson was poised to have a big game in just his second Puck Bowl of his career. Tomlinson started things out heavy and kept the Vikings players from scoring points early in the 4th quarter of the game. With A. Boldin only scoring 4 points early in his game, the Puck Bowl was starting to look like the Slugs were going secure their 3rd Bribin Cup. Then Boldin got hot, he rattled off 18 unanswered points to take the Vikings back into the lead 136-122 with two minutes left in the game.

Seattle's Bribin Cup hopes relied on Marvin Harrison outperforming the clock-draining abilities of Edge for the Vikings. The Vikings were able to seal the deal with a James TD early in the late Sunday night game to bring the Bribin Cup back to Kalamazoo. Harrison's two dropped passes in the endzone for the Slugs were costly, as they would have propelled the Slugs to victory in this high scoring affair.

Puck Bowl MVP: Jamal Lewis (RB-Kal)
