Packed With Sweetness
(Week 2) Everyone wrote off the Fudgepackers. Green Bay proved all the doubters wrong this week by recording their first triple digit game since week 7 last year against the shellshocked Wisconsin Wannabes. The Fudgepackers won the game with defense, as the surprising start of the Seahawks D, carried them over the top with a 30 point performance. Wisconsin tried to mount a late comeback from Toomer, but the 25 point deficet was too much for one man to overcome.
Things have not been going well for the Wannabe's this season. Last week, Wisconsin was surprised by the upstart W. Palm Beach Chads. The Wannabes must have still been in shock from that loss, as they let the Fudgepackers get by them. This has led Wisconsin Owner Sue to fire the head coach of the Wannabes. "We need to take this franchise in another direction, with Kalamazoo coming to town this week these players have to realize that underachieving has no place in Wisconsin," stated the Wannabe press secretary.
The story out of the Green Bay headquarters has been nothing but a wild party. The Fudgepacker fans have not had a whole lot to cheer about the last couple years, but posting solid numbers against one of the PWFFL elite will certainly change the mood in a hurry. They are falling in love with #4 in the brown and yellow and the fans are realizing just how much they actually underpaid to secure his services. "We havn't had a consistant quarterback to lead our football team since we started in this league five years ago, Brian (Griese) tried his best, but we've needed someone like Favre to kick our guys in the butt during crunch time," stated Ahman "Big Turdy" Green (Runningback for the Fudgepackers), "We feel like we can compete with the best, even Seattle when we visit them this weekend."
Both teams are in for a tough week 3. Kalamazoo, ranked #1, visits Wisconsin in the biggest matchup of the year so far for the Wannabes. Starting the season 0-3 with two games against arch-rival and defending Puck Bowl Champion, Rhode Island, yet to come will put serious stress on an already fragile management.
W. Palm Beach 80, Seattle 69
This game pitted two teams that were coming off week 1 victories. Althought they didn't look like the highest scoring team in the league in week 2, they scored enough to walk away with the win. Portis left the game after the first quarter, but was able to score a respectable 6 points before leaving. Seattle has been struggling to find their groove this season. Posting another subnormal score, Seattle has to wonder what is going on with their much heralded runningback core of Tomlinson and Faulk. Both have been just above average, but not great like planned on. Now, 1-1, Seattle looks to rebound against Green Bay. The Chads look to continue their success with a matchup against unpredictable Timbuktu.
Kalamazoo 102, Rocko 95
A rematch of last year's first round playoff game, the Vikings were looking for some serious retribution for being shut out of their first Puck Bowl. Kalamazoo didn't disappoint. Although owner Puck left J. Lewis's record setting rushing performance on the bench, it did not affect the outcome because the rest of the players were fired up. Rocko posted very respectable numbers and coach Willa got the most out of her team winning her Coach of the Week honors. Warrick's heroic 21 point performance went for naught because his counterpart, Johnson was left on the bench with similar numbers. Rocko was hoping to squeek out a victory this week, because in week 3 the Bengals face defending PWFFL champion Rhode Island. Kalamazoo visits Wisconsin in a very tough matchup. The Vikings have to make sure they arn't looking past the Wannabe's to week 4 when their arch-rival Seattle Slimy Slugs visit.
Detroit 110, Benton Harbor 91
The Drive stopped going in circles in week 2, and kicked it up a notch with a solid victory over Benton Harbor. Bob was psyched up because the Vegas Line only had them as a five point favorite against the Hoodlems. Burress, Coles, and Henry all came up with big games for the Drive, overshadowing good games from Hoodlems Moulds and Williams. Detroit is licking their chops because they face expansion N. Michigan in week 3. Benton Harbor will enter the Battle of Midwest (Management that is) when she takes on the England Teasers.
England 78, Timbuktu 71
The Bucs started out strong last year and this year looked to be the same. That is until the Kerry Collins lead Teasers came into town and made a dramatic monday night comeback to give England their first win of the season. Timbuktu just couldn't get anything going through the air, as Gannon was grounded with only 2 points the entire game. With a lack of power running-game, Timbuktu didn't stand a chance without their MVP.
Rhode Island 97, N. Michigan 60
The Champs vs. The Newbie. Not exactly fair for the start of the Yooper season, but a nice rebound for the Ridicule. Rhode Island is a reciever's dream as the Ridicule showed off their top ranked recieving corp led by the best wideout so far, H. Ward. The Yoopers posted excellent numbers from quarterback Ramsey and D. Jackson, but the young team still has not completely jelled together to be able to compete with a well oiled matchine like Rhode Island. The Schedule doesn't get any easier for N. Michigan as they take on Detroit, who has been ranked by Vegas as the third best team in the league.
Coach of the Week: Rocko Bengals
