Antonio VivaldiBirth: March 4, 1678 in Venice Death: July 28, 1741 in Vienna He is a brilliant Italian composer of baroque music. He made a great influence on the development of the concerto. He had experiences of priesthood. He was known as "The Red Priest" because of his red hair. But he worked as a teacher, conductor, and composer since 1704. He created 94 operas, but they are rarely revived while his instrumental music is admired. His music was forgotten for about a century after his death. However,the music revealed and highlighted by the discovery of its great influence on Bach. Vivaldi composed more than 600 concerti through his whole life. But there is a wag that he actually created only one concerto and made 600 arrangements of it. Whether it's true or not, Vivaldi's work was catalogued by Peter Ryom in the 1960's and 1970's. It is common to see RV (Ryom Verzeichnis) numbers nowadays.
