concerto

It was applied to ensemble music for voices and instruments in the 17th century. Since then, concerto means a work for a solo instrument or instrumental group with an orchestral ensemble.
The Classical period began to add other instrumental parts to strings. And by the time of the Romantic period, entire orchestras were bonded with the solo instrument.
