Johannes Brahms

Birth: May 7, 1833 in Hamburg
Death: April 3, 1897 in Vienna

Brahms is an outstanding musician of German music. He learned piano, musical theory and composition in young age from his father who was a double bass player. He worked as a conductor and a pianist for many years. After settlement in Vienna in 1868, he composed two works that brought him success - The German Requiem which was premiered in 1869 and his orchestral Variations on a Theme by Haydn in 1873. And he finished 4 symphonies after the success. But he retired from composition in 1890, at the age of 57.
