Jakob Gundersen (USA)

Jack with son Gunder and his dog, late twenties In 1910 Jakob Gundersen Ougendal arrived in the US. Jakob was to inherit the farm at Åvendal as the oldest son of Gunder, but he must undoubtedly had adventure in his blood.

He stayed with Gina's family the first years after he came over, and at around the same time as Gina and Magnus got their farm, Jakob bought one adjacent to his sister's. Apparently, before he left for America, Jacob had been working at farms at Jæren, where he had met Marie Grønefed from Ogna. When he was well established with his farm he sent for her, and they got married in 1924.

When Jakob first came to the US the plan was probably to return to Åvendal, but as the years went he settled and as Georg took over from Gunder at Åvendal the route back was blocked.

Thus nor Jack as he became known in America ever returned home. He died in 1965 while wife Marie died in 1975.
