Cencuses & other sources
The Norwegian State-Archives has put info from two different cencuses on the internet.
The cencuses recorded were held in 1865 and 1900, and they give us some information about how conditions were back then, particularly the 1865-cencus which has a record on the number of
animals held at each different farm.
Those who want to search further can do so at http://www.digitalarkivet.no.
I have gathered the information on the Ougendal farms here.
A great source for those searching for relatives from Sokndal is Stein Norem Wisteds records(Ættesoge).
Another place to find useful information is at the Immigration Centre at Ellis Island.
The graphics below is what I found on my grandpa on the Ellis Island files. It is interesting to note that he travelled with
the Lusitania, the ship that later was sunk by the Germans during WW1 with the loss of more than 1600 civilian lives, an action that drew USA into the war.
