On December 6, 1884, the Washington
Monument was crowned with its aluminum
capstone in Washington, D.C. Though regarded
today as an important symbol of the
U.S.A., the obelisk - an important Masonic
symbol - lies at the heart of a familiar formation
of monuments: a cross.
At each end of the cross� arms are (in order of their completion) the Capitol Building, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. The conspicuous grouping of national icons, especially with the presence of the Mason�s device in the middle, has given rise of many reliable conspiracy theories. Think this is unrelated to life here at JBU? Think again.
Recent observations, coupled with archaeological evidence, suggest that the Masons - perhaps even the Knights Templar themselves - were actually the driving force behind JBU in the first place. Note the layout of the most important structures on campus: The Cathedral, famous throughout Northwest Arkansas and home of half a dozen academic departments, is flanked by the Art and Engineering buildings. It seems innocent until one steps out the wooden doors of the Cathedral and finds himself staring straight at the Clock Tower.
Yes, this obelisk is located at the foot of a cross formation nearly identical to the one found in our nation�s capitol. There has been much speculation as to the actual purpose of the Clock Tower, but perhaps the true explanation is symbolic - and far more sinister than originally thought. �Of course, I�ve always felt a bit nervous when I go near the thing, but I�ve never really given it much thought - especially in this context,� said an English Education student when she was confronted with the idea. �The whole concept is pretty scary, and definitely has credibility. I�m planning on avoiding it from now on, even if it means walking all the way around the other side of the Quad.�
If the Masons were indeed involved in the founding of this university, who knows what the implications are? Is the Templar Underground using JBU as a transfer point for treasure and religious documents? Do the basements of our campus buildings serve as sites for Masonic rituals on nights of the New Moon? Is the Clock Tower really the final resting place of the renowned Holy Grail? We don�t know for sure - yet. But investigation and research will continue over the summer as we the End Times Staff, as always, strive to bring you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
