Session seven will introduce
what multimedia is and how it is used. You will understand the importance of vision to the communication process and how false-coloring is used in image enhancement. Be able to tell the difference between bitmapped and object-oriented graphics and how each is shown visually in both video and print forms. Also, understand how perspective and shading affect both two-dimensional and three-dimensional images. Be able to recognize how blending can improve shaded surfaces and how animation is achieved with many images that differ only slightly as well as the difference between speech synthesis and speech recognition. Know why recognition of disjointed speech is easier than recognition of continuous speech. Also, know the various audio formats used in computers as well as what MP3 is and how it impacts the World-Wide-Web. Finally, understand how MIDIs aid composers and performers in all aspects of the music industry.
