Ethical Issues and Technology

Session twelve will explain
the ethical issues involved in using computers in the electronic world and how the use of a computer has added new possibilities to the list of crimes. You will identify how the computer can be used in the theft of money, goods, information, or services and be able to recognize methods for protecting yourself from becoming a victim of computer crime. Also, comprehend the motivation for pirating software and appreciate the scope of the software-pirating problem. Be able to understand the motivations and techniques of hackers and crackers as well as how a computer virus can cause damage and how to use a vaccine or disinfectant program to find and eliminate viruses. Finally, be able to comprehend how inaccurate, incomplete, or poorly maintained information in databases can inadvertently invade individual privacy.
