Artificial
Intelligence and Modeling the Human State
Session ten will explain
early attempts at machine intelligence. You will understand
how a computer's intelligence is tested with the Turing
Test, how models of the human brain make use of knowledge
acquisition, knowledge retrieval, and reasoning and
how heuristics limit the search possibilities when
trying to solve a problem. You will be able to recognize
that exhibiting common sense is an attribute of very
few computers. Also, be able to understand how game-playing
computer programs have aided our understanding of
how humans make similar decisions. Understand and
appreciate some of the problems related to natural
language understanding by a computer. Be able to discern
how complex adaptive systems and artificial life try
to model the natural situations of the world. Finally,
be able to identify the basic premise of the genetic
algorithm as solving all types of problems using a
model of evolution.
The
following are the activities for this Week. It is important
to emphasize that each assignment is designed to be performed
in one day, and maximum two if pertinent.
