Characters:Pandora: There are so many great characters in this game, I�m going to list them all, for the hell of it.
The main characters that you can play:
Cloud Strife:
The main character in the game. Apparently, he used to be a member of SOLDIER, but I�ll leave what to be believe up to you...
Barret Wallace:
The leader of AVALANCHE. He tries to juggle his life as a rebel with looking after his daughter, Marlene. His wife was killed when Shinra burnt down Corel. Shinra are a load of pyromaniacs really. He's kinda releictant to let Cloud lead the way at first, but Tifa talks him round.
Tifa Lockheart:
Owner of the seventh heaven, a bar in the slums of Midgar. She�s another member of AVALANCHE. She used to be friends with cloud back when they both lived in Nibelhiem and she loves Cloud. Though for most of the time, Cloud's attentions don't seem to be on her which is kinda a shame.
Aeris Gainsborough:
Aeris is an Ancient (cetra) and is searched for by the Shinra. At the beginning of the game, she�s a flower seller in the slums and lives with her stepmother. She tries to prevent Meteor from destroying the planet by trying to summon the Holy materia, they're last real chance at getting out of it. Unfortunately, Sephiroth manages to find out and kills her infront of Cloud and the holy materia is lost. In the end however, it appears Aeris's prayer for Holy works just before Meteor lands.
RedXIII:
His real name is Nanaki and he comes from Cosmo canyon where he currently lives with his grandad. His mother and father were killed in a war with the Gi tribe and Red was led to believe his father had betrayed them. At the beginning of the game, the characters find Red in Hojo�s lab where he was going to force him to bread with Aeris. Ew ew.
Cait Sith:
Erm, what can I say...? Cait Sith is a fortune telling machine operated by Reeve, used to spy on the group. It�s not real, thank god, but is a stuffed toy, which strikes me as being kinda weird...
Vincent Valentine:
Previously a member of the Turks. Vincent is found by the group in the basement of the Shinra mansion where he was put to sleep by Hojo and left there. There was some kind of triangle thing with Lucretia, him and Hojo but no one really knows what happened there. He joins the party when they tell him they'll probably see Hojo again.
Cid Highwind:
A pilot who dreams of going into space but now can�t because the Shinra have cut funding. He now acts as head of the village where he rocket has been left standing. He lives with Shera (but not like that) but joins the party after Shinra try and take the Tiny Broco (his plane - his only remaining connection to the sky) from him but later on makes up for it when he manages to steal the Shinra's airship back from them. Smokes a lot and unfortunately quite a lot of his words have to be *�d out.
Yuffie Kisaragi:
A materia thief the party comes across in the woods. She claims she needs to collect materia to help her town become the way it once was instead of a tourist spot.
The �bad� guys:
Sephiroth:
Although Sephiroth is the one trying to destroy the planet with a big meteor, I don�t think he�s the worst bad guy in the game. When I played it, I actually felt quite sorry for him. Sephiroth was created by Hojo in the Jenova project and when he found this out, went kinda loopy which, I think, is what a lot of people would have done. He's not exaclty human - when he was being born, he was mixed with Jenova cells which gave him super strength and other strange abilities. He was believed to be dead fives years before the game started - lost on a mission. However, he was actually thrown into the lifestream which managed to maintain his body and give him the whole to the lifestream to uses his weird powers with. He belives that jenova was a cetra (an ancient) and that the people of the planet have stolen the planet from her so by causing a big enough wound to the planet so that enery needs to be drawn form elsewhere, ie, the people of the planet he will return the planet to his mother and he in turn will recieve all the planet's energy and become a god. In a nutshell...
President Shinra:
You only see him for a bit. He�s the owner of Shinra and is a rather cold-hearted kind of guy. He watched, drinking wine and listening to music, as they brought the plate down on Sector Seven. Sephiroth doesn't much like him either so impaled him with his masamume whilst the party were locked in a Shinra cell.
Rufus Shinra:
He took over after his father was killed by Sephiroth. I do not know who was worse. Apparently, no one has ever seen him cry. Met his demise when Diamond weapon vaporised Shinra Tower. Didn't cry then either...
Scarlet:
Head of shinra�s weapons department. Maybe they should have channelled her laugh and used that as a weapon of mass destruction. She flirts quite a bit and goes to work in a red dinner dress. Enough said.
Heidegger:
Also a head of some weird department the Shinra quite obviously don�t need when all they do is provide vehicles and electricity. He has quite a temper and I can�t imagine Shinra Soliders enjoy working under him.
Tseng:
He�s the head of the Turks. Something went on with him and Aeris, but I don�t know what. From what I understand, I don't think he really liked his job much sometimes, though he seemed to like messing Elena around.
Reno:
Also a Turk. He seems a little relaxed in his approach to his work, even after he took over from Tseng.
Rude:
Also a Turk. He doesn�t say much in the game, but you can pay him a visit in a club in the backstreets of Junon where he's mostly seen playing cards. Randomly had a thing for Tifa.
Elena:
A new recruit to the Turks who joined when the group took Reno out of commission. She really likes being a Turk and seemed to have a thing for Tseng.
Hojo:
Argh! Whoever hired him should have been shot. He is the main scientist working for Shinra on the Jenova and took over from Professor Gast. Sephiroth described him as �a walking mass of complexes�, but I think I'll go for a cid highwind description on this one, he's an evil f***ed up weirdo. He messed around with real, live people just to see what would happen, he�s awful and very very wrong. But it was all just him being manipulated by Jenova, so if you want to feel sorry for him go ahead. He's Sephiroth's true father.
Don Corneo:
Owns a mansion in wall market. Apparently, he�s looking for a wife an so brings three girls to his mansion every night, to test them out. Eurgh! He seems to be involved in a lot of dodgy stuff around Midgar.
Palmer:
I wouldn�t describe him as bad, just crap. He's the guy who tries to be bad but just ends up being annoying. He just wanted to get his space program off the ground but unfortunately, he works for Shinra, and so ended up in this section. Sorry.
Other people that have some relevance:
Reeve:
The man behind the wonder that was Cait Sith... He works for Shinra (I believe he design and oversaw the construction of midgar) and spies on the group, but I don�t class him as bad since he later goes against Shinra himself.
Professor Gast:
Started on the Jenova project, but apparently stopped when he met Ifalna. Was shot by a couple of Shinra soldiers with orders from Hojo. The father of Aeris.
Elmyra:
Aeris� stepmother. Looks after marlene later on. Her husband was killed in the wutai war.
Ifalna:
Aeris� mother and so hence, a Cetra. Dies after taking Aeris to Midgar.
Lucrecia:
An assistant to Hojo, and later (shudder) went out with him. (shudder again.) She was injected by Hojo with Jenova cells while pregnant with Hojo's child so was Sephiroth�s actual mother, not Jenova.
Zack:
Who was actually at Nibelheim, and the original owner of the buster sword. Was shot by Shinra soldiers at Midgar for escaping and at one point went out with Aeris.
Dyne:
People think this is Marlene actual father. Regardless, he used to be friends with Barret at Corel and was injured when shinra destroyed their village. Now has a gun-arm, like Barret and lives in Corel Prison. Took his own life by jumping off a cliff.
Marlene:
Dyne/barret�s daughter. I think this is who you see in kalm in the final scenes.
Shera:
Cid�s assistant. Was responsible for Cid not being able to go into space and has now devoted her life to him to make up for it.
Chocobo Sage:
An old guy who has devoted his life to chocobo�s and found a house in the mountains with his chocobo. Now lives there and gives �advise� about chocobos.
Chocolbo billy/chloe/etc.
Helpers at the chocobo stables.
Ester:
Racing assistant at the golden saucer.
Joe:
Top chocobo jockey.
Deo:
Owner of the gold saucer.
Biggs/Wedge/Jessie:
They're immortal! They've lived so long and in so many parallel dimensions. In this game, they are members of avalanche but were 'killed' - I did say they were immortal, of course they can't be killed - when sector seven was brought down.
Mayor Domino:
The mayor of Midgar who has now been made into a glorified librarian.
Hart:
Domino�s assistant
Presilla:
Girl living under Junon. Has a dolphin as a pet and gives you some shiva materia.
Buganhaagen:
Red�s grandfather and teacher of the studies of planet life.
Seto:
Red�s father. Warrior who fought against the Gi tribe.
Lord Godo:
Yuffie�s father, who seems to think that yuffie�s behavior is acceptable.
Zangan:
Tifa�s martial arts instructor.
