For the first half of 2008, Polymer stayed away from the local scene, recording new material and breaking in a new guitarist. However, another major change was brewing. The band decided that not just their songwriting but their very essence was evolving and decided to change their name to THE CLASSIC. They feature a more sophisticated look but are just as powerful than they were before. The new image and songs are showcased on a new self-titled EP.
The Classic features good rhythms, introspective lyrics, three to four-part harmonies and a dual guitar attack. They are influenced by modern alt-rock groups like Jimmy Eat World, Switchfoot and Incubus but have a style all their own. They bring high energy to each show; During many instrumental breaks all of the standing members move and even jump around the stage, sometimes at the risk of contact. It is not choreography - it is just the band getting into the music and encouraging the audience to do the same.
