The Crown
"Crowned In Terror"
2002
9/10
Damn it, Im Crowned in Terror.again! The Crown is finally back with their awaited  fifth album Crowned In Terror. My expectations were pretty high on this album actually, thus the two latest releases have been killingly good, and also that they got ex-At The Gates singer Tompa Lindberg behind the microphone. Well, what can I say about this album then? The drum sound were the only thing wrong on the Hell is here-album, and they have fixed that now. The sound is perfect for The Crown on this album! When it comes to the songs.. ehhmm I actually expected more from The Crown. Now, dont get me wrong, they arent bad at all, but I know they can do so much better! The good old rock n roll-feeling from Hell is here is gone, and its just those parts that made The Crown put their chins out to not be as other death metal-bands. The music on this album is heavier though, and sometimes you get a feeling of US-death metal, for example in Death Metal Holocaust which also includes ex-singer Johan Lindstrand on guestvocals. That is a thing I also can mention. I miss Johan very much. Tompa is one of Swedens best singer, and he also does a very great job in The Crown, but Johans voice was made for The Crown, and thats a fact! But what the hell, who am I to sit here and complain on my favourite death metal-band? The Crown kicks ass! And if not else.THATS a fact!

The old classics in the smae vein as The Gathering, a good or bad idea? I would say good or even brilliant! I mean, the classics with the technic of today and Alex Skolnick back on lead guitar, can it be better? No. I love this album,  The legion have re-recorded eleven tracks for this album and even Steve Souza is back with lead vocals on two songs, Alone In The Dark and Reign In Terror. This album is for all of the Testament fans who caught up with The Gathering to get a chance to know Testaments roots. I think alot of bands should follow Testaments idea of re-recording old tracks, cause this works just fine t me. Just listen to classics as The Preacher, Burnt Offerings, Trail By Fire and The New Order.

Members from the swedish bands Soilwork and Darkane have got togheter and made an brutal, right in your face ala Slayer and At The Gates. This is an death metal album that reach for 32 minutes and I get the feeling that these guys trys to do an Reign In Blood for the year 2000 and I think that they have succeed. It has an beatuiful mix of fast riffs, heavy midtenpo parts like At The Gates, a man that growls like satan and an attitude that can move the biggest mountain. Whit song titles like Son Of A Gun, Daughter Of A Slaughter and Burn Witch Burn they set the mark for the whole album. This is brutal death metal as It finest and if you got the gutsgo get this one.

Another Italian band that plays melodic power metal like Rhapsody and Labyrinth but they have a little way left to these two. The music is like Rhapsodys  with choirs, violins and stuffand parts with heavy guitars like Labyrinth but that doesent helps when the production is so lame that you gets tired after only a few songs. Put on an Rhapsody and toy will get power and heaviness and the listen to The Lasting Power and you will get nothing of that. But these guys could be great, if the get their selfs an decent studio and an great producer they will have an great future.
