| Newsted: Metallica will crush everybody's head again. Despite Metallica's widely-publicized recent setbackswhich include the departure of bassist Jason Newsted and frontman James Hetfield's battle with alcoholismthe band are far from over and should not be counted out, according to Newsted. "Losing hope or doubting Metallica, stuff like that? I don't see that as a wise move," the bassist is quoted as saying on Canada's CFOX.com. "The things that this band has overcome, they've come past things bigger than this. James is a very strong, strong spirit. He's had some down times, but those kind of things in that type of person usually, I'd say pretty much all the time, make them stronger. And he'll come back and crush everybody's head again. I'm not too worried about that." As for someone filling his shoes in Metallica," Newsted added, "The Metallica thing, I've heard some of the new music... James is a great bass player. If they need to go in and record an album and have to play bass on it so be it. If they find somebody else, [former Megadeth bassist] Dave Ellefson or [Armored Saint bassist] Joey Vera or something to come in, somebody who's capable of walking into that level of a band and those kind of egos and that kind of attitude and those things that go on, there's millions and millions of dollars involved." S.O.D. bassist Danny Lilker: The band is over. Despite S.O.D. frontman Billy Milano's well-publicized attempts to resurrect the group with an all-new line-up following the "firing" of guitarist Scott Ian and drummer Charlie Benante, there will be no further recordings or live appearances from the band, according to bassist Danny Lilker. "I spoke with Bill, and he is no longer going to attempt to put together any version of [S.O.D.] without all the original members, and since he and Charlie have both decided never to play with each other again due to all the recent shit-slinging, the band is over," Lilker wrote in a posting on Anthrax's official message board. "This is not an Ozzy-esque trickwe're not gonna do a 'final' tour ('This is the last time you'll get a chance to see us ever, so make sure and go!'that Sharon is a crafty bitch), if you never saw S.O.D. you never will. Sgt. D will be going to Valhalla with the rest of the dead warriors. Adios amigos, and thanks for all the support, it was greatly appreciated." S.O.D. dies again: By Scott Ian S.O.D./Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has posted the following message on the official Anthrax web site at www.anthraxband.com. "Sergeant D, Icon of Race Relations, Zombie, Raconteur, Dies Again, Sergeant D, one of the most controversial figures of the last two decades, died again yesterday in Bayside, New York. Cause of death was given as cancer of the idea. "For years, he was known as the mascot for joke metallers S.O.D. aka Stormtroopers Of Death, wherein actuality, Sergeant D spent most of his time fighting the inequities that zombies have to face. Sergeant D, founder of the non-profit People For the Ethical Treatment of Zombies, or PETZ, devoted his time among the living to ending the injustices that zombies worldwide have had to endure for ages. "Always the whipping boys of vampires and assorted practicers of arcane black magic, zombies have always been relegated to the lowest rungs of supernatural existence. Sergeant D, tired of playing the henchman to the more glamorous roles of wizard or vampire, started Petz to make people aware of the zombies plight. 'The day of the shuffling, shambling, brain eating, dim witted zombie is over,' said D in his speech to supporters outside of Pittsburgh at the Monroeville Mall in 1978, after a screening of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead. 'As if Night of the Living Dead wasn't bad enough, this movie perpetrates every stereotype there is about zombies. You living humans have had your last laugh at zombies' expense. We shall no longer be the Polish joke of the monster world,' D was quoted as saying, foreshadowing the politically incorrect, yet righteous path he would take until his death. "In 1985 he sold his likeness to S.O.D. (Stormtroopers Of Death), in order to raise money for the organization. His relationship with S.O.D. was more than just financial. Sergeant D, being what S.O.D. guitarist Scott Ian called 'a living, breathing pillar of hatred for all things living', was the sole inspiration for S.O.D.'s seminal crossover classic Speak English Or Die. "In 1986, much to the disdain of S.O.D., Sergeant D let his image be used for the zombie character in the major motion picture House. Starring Richard Moll (Bull from Night Court) as an intelligent, dark, and very funny zombie who comes back to avenge his death, House was the first movie that in Sergeant D's word's "took us out of the dark ages of the buffoon-like zombie created by Ed Wood and Tor Johnson, and into a new age, a zombie renaissance if you will, of smart, reactive, hip zombies of today." "Besides the occasional S.O.D. reunion album, Sergeant D had laid low and concentrated on Petz throughout the nineties and into the new millennium. His most recent work was as a consultant on the set of Blade 2, putting the super-vampires through boot camp to heighten the realism needed for this blockbuster movie. Pope John Paul II, a noted zombie himself, said, "His legacy shall live forever in our hearts, dead or alive." Sergeant D was survived by no one. Accept will issue a DVD. On July 20th, Accept be issuing a DVD, entitled Metal Blast From The Past, containing previously unreleased numbers, the Japan bonus track "Rich And Famous" and demo versions of five "Breaker" cuts.
