| Last night I had the opportunity to get an exclusive interview with Tomas W�ppling from Freternia direct from the studio. I dialed the number and on the other side Tomas answered: - Yeah it`s Tomas. -Hi there how are you? -Im fine thank you a bit tired because we had a real good party yesterday (laughs). -He he ok back on your feet now then? -Yeah! -How are things going for you? -Well Pasi has laid vocals on 3 tracks and he is in the studio right now, soon it will be my turn to lay down some guitars. Most drums and bass are ready just some little things to add and off course all the solos is still left. -I heard you have some trouble, that Patrik Lund needed to leave, what happened? -Finally we had Patrik back in the band for recording the new album and then he had to leave suddenly because of personal reasons. A big disappointment for the band because he is a brilliant guitarplayer so now we have to use a guy from V�ster�s, he is awesome to. So no big trouble anyway. -So Tomas why did you change studio and producer? -Well one of the reasons is that we have been in Studio Mega so many times now, everything we have recorded so far is made in that studio. But the main reason is that we wasn�t happy with the production last time and we all felt that it was time for a change. We chose studio Underground because we have heard a lot of good things about this studio and Pelle Saether. -What about Pelle what has he offered to the sound. -He has first of all offered quality, he is so damn hard all the time Pasi has to sing his lungs out... If Pasi thinks he`s done with a vocal line, Pelle just say do it again mate if he isn`t satisfied. He has come up with some awesome ideas we havn`t think of and an awesome production. -The title of the album is it still "Grimbor the Great"? and can you give us some songtitles? -Nope the title is not finished yet, we did get an idea yesteday but I wont tell you (he he). But I can give you the songtitles anyway: "Grimbor The Great", "Arrival", "The Dark Side", "Shadowdancers", "The Saviour", " The Unexpected", "New Hope", "Battle Of Minds" and "Requiem". -But anyway it is a concept album? -Yes it is, we wanted to do one. It is an idea that me and Pasi has worked on for a long time now. -Please tell me little about the story. -Well it is about the maincharacter that when he fell a sleep he travels through the portal to Grimbors world. A world of evil and darkness. After a while he realised that the dream was a prophecy and that is his responsibility to save the good people, "The Shadowdancers", from the evil at "The Dark Side" It`s a story full of adventures and in the end there is a fight between good and evil. -What about the music then, what has happened since the last time? -The last album was very melodybased and fast through the album, this time we have a more riff-oriented songs and I feel that the music stands more on its own this time. Some stuff is much more heavier than before and some parts are softer. Not always as fast as the last time. Alot of the stuff is with two voices on each other and we diden�t have that on the last album. -The choirs!, peoples has asked me about the choirs from the last album? -He he yeah well we will definitely have choirs on this album but not as much as on "Warchants & Fairytales". But the choirs will be there. -You have a new member in the line-up as well, tell me about it. -Ah I wont say a new member, its more like the lost son is back. Because Peter Wiberg (Bass) was in the band from the beginning. I must say I really like to have him back, he plays the bass better than me, and I can concentrate playing the guitar again. -Who is going to do the albumcover?, I know many loved the last cover. -We have Jean-Pascal Fournier that will do the cover for us this time. He has done covers to last EdGuy, the Avantasia-album and Steel Attack to name a few. We will work on some ideas about the concept that we will send to him. -When will the album be released? -Sometime in October. -Last time everything screwed up for you because the old company went bankrupt. I wonder will there be a tour for this album? -You see all depends on sales, but if you dont get out and play you dont sell records so I hope that Arise (the new record label) will get us on a tour. Im dying to get out and play for all fans out there so hold your thumbs. -Do you have anything you like to add now Tomas? -Well hell yeah! Im dying to eat Tacos (laughs) -Ha ha ok Tomas kick some ass in the studio then so we can get a real killer album in October. -Ha ha I will do my best and see you soon. -Yeah bye and I promise I will keep your tacos hot. - Shad |
