I was a special education teacher for 25 years. My last assignment lasted 16 years in a residential setting. I was honored to have a very wide array of men and women to keep me busy each day. My students were all adults with mental retardation and behavior problems. The place I worked specialized in people with severe behavior problems.
I started writing these poems to be read at our staff meetings. Sometimes we needed a pick-me-up before going out on the floor to work. Some times we needed a laugh. We always needed a good cry. Any one who has worked in special education knows that.
If you find any of these poems offensive those are the breaks. Truth wins out here. These poems are all from the heart and helped me cope with an extremely ... ummmm .... interesting job and helped me LOVE every single day of it.All of these poems are copyrighted and are not to be used in any form without my permission.
