My Christmas Gift It was the month before Christmas and all over the place,
they stick with Maria in her steeple chase.
She bolts to the alarm with the grace of a deer,
I think she's the quickest in this hemisphere.
Just when the staff's strength gets renewed,
In runs Steven P. and he's greatly amused.
He calls Doc a name I can't repeat here,
He rolls down the hill with an attack so severe.
He looked at me once with his face all agog.
He told me I made him swallow a frog.Through Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and New Year's and all,
They torment and tease us and have such a ball.
They show us things we don't want to see,
They do silly stuff and say, "Hey you, look at me!"
Some times they are so goofy you want to roar,
Some times its hard not to laugh right out loud.
But they tie their shoes right, you can tell they are proud. To me these are the times that make it all worth while,
Because there are the days that you continually smile.
These are the days when you want to play,
Carefully though in an adult appropriate way.
This time of year we all want to be,
Like a small child with our Christmas tree.
They make out their list and we check it out twice,
We always make sure their Christmas is nice. This is the time to forget all the screams,
It is the time to help others build dreams.
It is the time to think of all the good we have done,
Think of the battles we've helped with and won.
From Christmas to Christmas at times we get miffed,
But look deep in their eyes for the best Christmas gift.©1990
