Area 3: The Back Bed![]() Thanks for stopping by, Brett Previous Entries: Initial: This bed runs along the fence on the south edge of our property. As with many of the other beds, it has sat relatively vacant for the past few years. There are some daffodils in there from previous years, but the majority of plants I expect to rise were just planted last fall. I expect to see many more daffodils, hostas, stargazer lilies, and some thyme. We also had planted some purple coneflower and some cosmos back in the spring, but I suspect they did not take last year. Time will tell for certain. The patch of Comfrey surprises a number of people. It is very invasive, my primary control method being a very big knife. It gets tiny little flowers, but for the most part is just big green leaves. Comfrey has strong medicinal uses (my kids call it the band-aid plant) and is a natural compost accelerator. The roots can grow to 10', so you can expect it to pop up in strange places. |
