Area 15: Lucas'/Adria's Beds
May 23: Adria's Bed - So far I am very excited about these beds. Adria's Peony (Japanese Orange Peony) hasn't bloomed the last two years in it's previous spot. It already shows more growth than ever before and has a couple large buds forming strong and healthy. That would be enough on it's own but the other two common peonies are growing along just as quickly. It will be a while before I can expect to see any buds on them bud they are still looking very good. The two new Phlox have emerged, but their is no sign as yet of the Stargazer Lilies or the Acidanthera.
Lucas' Bed - The Rose of Sharon bothers me every year. It never shows signs of growth when I want (or expect) it to. Instead it looks as though it died over the winter, making me wait until later in the spring than seems healthy, and on the one day that I'm not touring the garden it'll leaf out. The fact that I moved it this spring just adds another layer of anxiety to it all. The other plants are all doing well. Nothing significant to mention as of yet.
The Wire Tree - has just made a small step in the right driection. I will be making another large'ish one such as this (hopefully a little more intricate) to be put on display at The Potting Shed here in Cayuga. I'm still considering whether I want to make these trees by commission or just make a few and wait until they sell off before making more. I'm sort of leaning toward the latter right now. We'll see.

May 04: This is a view of the beds as they were first dug. Since this photograph was taken I have extended Lucas' bed a bit toward the road in order to balance against Adria's bed and allow me to plant some asters and marigolds.
The peonies are all showing signs of growth, so I am less worried that they were harmed during the transplanting. We still have to wait and see if they will bloom. It is still very early in the season so little is happening in beds so new.
Initial Entry: The bed on the left is Adria's and the one on the right is Lucas'. Why? In Adria's case, the Japanese Orange Peony was planted in honour of her birth, and for Lucas it was the Rose of Sharon. Both of these plants were previously in the back yard, but it was necessary to move them to more suitable conditions. I'm truly hoping that they survived the transplanting.
The other peonies had previously lived in Area 7, but had they remained there they would now be under 2 feet of soil and sod. The bulbs in Lucas' bed are also out of Area 7.
