Area 10: The Front Bed![]() April 21: Things are just starting to come up in the bed. ![]() May 23: The Echinacea came through as well. It is growing nicely tucked in underneath the Juniper a little. The Columbines are in flower, although the flower is not what I was expecting so I am thinking it may have been mis-labeled. When I get a moment I will try to get a more firm identification on it. Other than that everything is healthy and happy in this bed. The Yews and Eu's :-) are doing well (these really respond well to pruning), and the hostas are on the rise. Thanks for stopping by, Brett Previous Entries: Initial: Pretty straight-forward foundation planting. We haven't really done anything to this bed yet. The Lupines, Columbines, and some Coneflower (Echinacea purpura) were planted last spring. They all died back almost immediately and I had written them off as dead. However, the first two have shown themselves this year, so I'll be watching for the third. The line of Daffodils is just there because I haven't bothered to move them. They pop up after a cold winter, but have not bloomed as long as I've lived here. At some point I'll go in and dig them out. It should be noted that this bed is on the north side of the house, and is very protected by the giant Juniper on the right, a 4.5 foot Boxwood hedge on the left, and the eaves from above. It gets no sun, and very little rain or wind. I'm surprised every year that anything is able to grow in here at all. |
