I decided that the obvious way to arranged restaurants was by price. Afterall, we are students, and money is the most important factor in deciding where we eat. In the following pages, you will find my ratings of restaurants in the surronding area of LSU. You might not agree with them, but I do. Organization Chart (Price includes tax and
tip):
$$$$ You must be going on a date to want to eat at these restaurants. Baton Rouge certainly has some great restaurants. I think these top ones are just as good as any in New Orleans. Try them if you have the means. Near Campus: None
Not So Close To Campus: Chalet Brandt: This is my favorite restaurant in the world. I grew up in New Orleans and have eaten at all the famous ones (Commanders, Brennans, Prudhomme's, etc.) and this place beats them. Everything is excellent in this Swiss food heaven. Oh, you must try it. Their ice cream is wonderful for dessert. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere, the service, the food, all are world class. Found near the corner of Corporate and Jefferson. Reservations recommended if not required. Expect about $35/ person. The Melting Pot: A good restaurant, though you cook your own food. They give you high quality food to cook. I think paying $35-$40 a person should get you gourment cooking, not just gourmet food. It is a fondue restaurant, and fondue is their speciality. Dessert is supposed to be fantastic. A great place to have fun while eating gourmet food. Located off Corporate near the theatre. Ruth Chris' Steak House: this world famous steak house is a favorite for power lunches. Their steaks are famous, so you have to try it. Their aspargus with hollandaise sauce is terrific. You pay about $20 for the steak alone, so plan on $40 per person. Located at 4836 Constitution. French Market Bistro: Great cajun food from all the reports I 've gotten. If you eat here, please tell us how it was. Located at 16645 Highland Road. Maison Lacour: located on North Harrell's
Ferry Road near Sherwood, this is one of two restaurants in Baton Rouge
to have received 5 stars from Mobile. The owners are a husband and
wife team. He runs the front end, an American I believe, while his wife,
who is Chinese and went to school in Paris, runs the kitchen. A small place
with a fantastic menu. Wear a jacket. They are on the web, www.maisonlacour.com
so check out their menu. Many believe this is the best restaurant
in Baton Rouge.
