Eating off Campus $$$

I decided that the obvious way to arranged restaurants was by price.  Afterall, we are students, and money is the most important factor in deciding where we eat.  In the following pages, you will find my ratings of restaurants in the surronding area of LSU.  You might not agree with them, but I do.

Near Campus:

Mellow Mushroom: this is a new pizza place on Burbank that opened in July.  My friend ate here and he had such a terrible experience, that he told me to write a bad review.  He said he paid $20 for a large pizza that was nasty.  Now, I've never been here, but according to him, don't go.  It's located by the Arby's.

Mike Anderson's: Seafood restaurant on Lee across from Portabello's Italian.  This is the original one, so it's pretty good.  I recommend it.  They have a lunch menu that is much cheaper than dinner.  You can eat here for lunch for about $10.  Sometimes it's busy.  Check it out.

Outback Steakhouse: One of the very few chains I like.  They have great steaks.  Try the Outback special steak.  It's delicious.  Their free bread and refills are good for me.  Their Caesar salads are good too.  The two negatives are the dim lighting and the crowd.  It's located on S. Acadian across from Lonestar, just past Walmart.  Try it and enjoy.

TJ's Ribs: This is one restaurant that is on my "Must Eat At" list.  I have heard nothing but good things about this place.  It's located on South Acadiana past Outback and Lonestar on the left.

Not So Close To Campus:

Ralph and Kacoo's: Good seafood.  It's located right off I-10 at Bluebonnet across from the Mall of Louisiana.  They have the best hushpuppies in the world.  The service is usually lightning fast, but you might have to wait to sit down.  If you eat at lunch, it will only cost you about $10.  Dinner will cost about $15/entree.  One of the rooms you eat in has hundreds of stuffed animals and fish -- really cool or really scary depending how you are.

Blue Fish Grill: it is found on 7560 Corporate near Jefferson.  I finally ate here.  I must say that the atmosphere is great.  Having that huge aquarium there makes it all the better.  It might take you back to Sharky's Reef in New Orleans as the same guy who made the tank there made the one for Blue Fish Grill.  I thought the food was below average in quality, especially for the price paid.  It's still a good place to try.  They have a website at www.bluefishgrill.com
Another reviewer writes, "The food is really good, unique, I must say, the atmosphere is awesome.  There is a 16 or 17 ft. tall HUGE aquarium smack dab in the middle of the resturant which includes, sharks, eels, anything you can imagine.  It's awesome!  You must try the Crab Critters, very good!  Two thumbs up for Blue Fish Grill."  Thanks Helaine for the review.  If you'd like to share your review, email me at [email protected] or post it on the Message Board

Kamado's Japanese: has sushi and regular Japanese food.  I ate here, and thought the sushi was low grade.  I am never going back.  Baton Rouge has no good sushi places.  It's sad.  The grilled food is pretty good.  I pity Baton Rouge for this.  Two locations, one on Sherwood Forest and the other off College near Semolina's.

Koto: Another Japanese restaurant.  It's located on College between Lee and I-10.  The sushi isn't very good (BR sucks).  They have a buffet of Chinese food that's less than $10.  There is also a hibachi grill (grill on the table).  It's a ripoff.  You pay $15 and you get low quality food.  Go to New Orleans if you want Japanese food and sushi.  It's just pathetic here!

Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro: This restaurant on Bluebonnet in front of the Mall of Louisiana was once Copeland's.  I liked it more when it was Copeland's.  I only ate here once, but was not impressed.  There is still a Copeland's, but I don't know where it is.

Dinardo's: It has changed names.  I don't know the new name.  It's located on Highland, waaaaay out there.   The quickest way to get there is I-10, get off at Highland where Blue Bayou is, and take a left.  It's on your left about 2 miles down.  I thought it was expensive Italian.  I didn't like it.  It has a lot of cool LSU stuff though.

Gino's: Highly overrated Italian.  It's good, but overpriced.  You just shouldn't have to pay these prices for Italian food.  It's okay as a date restaurant.  Located on College by Koto's.

Joe's Crab Shack: If you eat here, you have serious problems.  Why eat at this seafood chain?  How does a seafood company based in Dallas survive here?  Go to Mike Anderson's or Ralph and Kacoo's.  Everything here except the fish of the day is FROZEN.  Typical chain garbage.  It's out by Super Walmart on Seigen.

Drusilla's: located on 3482 Drusilla.  I thought it was good seafood like Ralph and Kacoo's.  However, the service was a disaster.  Try it if you're tired of Mike Anderson's and Ralph and Kacoo's.

Juban's: this seafood restaurant is on 3739 Perkins Rd.  I have never been, but have heard that it was once a great place to get seafood.  However, it has recently been overrun by sorority girls trying to get society connections.  I don't know how it is now, but if you try it, tell us how it is.
