Tasuki is the fifth member of the Suzaku Seishi to appear. He is also one of my favorites because of his unique and interesting appearance and personality. He first appears abducting Miaka and taking her as his hostage, challenging Eiken for his rightful position as leader of the Mt. Reikaku bandits. He tricks Miaka by telling her that their former leader, now dead, was Tasuki, thus forcing her, Hotohori, and Nuriko to search out someone rumored to be able to revive the dead, and run right into another of the Suzaku Seishi, Mitsukake. Tasuki, however, realizes his duty as a Suzaku Seishi and leaves the leadership of his bandits to his good friend, Koji, and joins Miaka just in time to rescue them from zombies.
Tasuki is a fascinating character because of his fiery hair, his smart mouth, his awesome coat ^_^, his seemingly carefree and indifferent attitude, and those curious fangs! He’s always saying he hates girls (most likely because he grew up in a family of five older sisters). It was for that reason that he ran away from home and joined the Mt. Reikaku bandits. He was given the nickname Genrou and soon became a favorite of the former leader, Hakurou, which was why he was named the next leader.
Tasuki doesn’t beat around the bush; he says what he wants to say and does what he wants to do. But despite Tasuki’s previous occupation as a bandit, he is noble and caring. He immediately takes his position as Miaka’s protector seriously, even though he “hates” girls.
Tasuki is the “bad boy” of the bunch, with his swearing, fighting, and drinking. His fiery hair matches his fiery temper, although he is just as quick to laugh and smile. He never backs down from a challenge, especially if someone he cares about is at risk. He may say he hates girls, but he is still willing to give his life in exchange for Miaka’s safety. He is never willing to hurt a girl in any way and is, in fact, rather chivalrous when it comes to dealing with them. He just likes to avoid them because they always cause him trouble. While he certainly is a smart-alleck and can even be rude at times, he is loyal, honest, and faithful to his friends. He sometimes tries to hide his more tender emotions behind a careless attitude, but will let down his defenses and reveal his true feelings only to those closest to him. He may be tough, but he can also be very kind and considerate.
Tasuki’s relationships with the rest of the Seishi are interesting in that it varies from one to the other. He has a sort of sibling rivalry relationship with Tamahome, often getting into arguments with him and even frying him with his iron fan at various times (which may also be a sort of “pay back” for when Tamahome, under Nakago’s spell and the Kudokou, nearly killed Tasuki). He is like an older brother to Miaka, protective of both her physical and emotional well-being. With Nuriko, he can only be described as her playmate as the two are always laughing and having fun together. Tasuki’s quick temper and wit give a bad boy flare to the ranks of the Suzaku Seishi.
