More Juvies news via email from Chance Films for California viewers:
On Thursday night, May 27, at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time, California Connected will air a portion of JUVIES as part of their program.  The show will be followed by a live chat online.  You’re all invited to participate.  Simply go to the California Connected website at http://californiaconnected.org and they will have a link on the home page to hook you up.  Please pass this on to your friends and family as well.

Also the Boston Herald had more info on the Harvard screening which is a fundraiser for Mark's foundation:
Tinseltown heartthrob Mark Wahlberg will be back home in Boston June 14 to premiere a 60-minute documentary on something he knows a little something about - the juvenile justice system. "Juvies,'' which follows 12 youths prosecuted as adults from juvenile hall to adult state prison, will have its first showing at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University. "Over 200,000 kids are prosecuted as adults each year in America,'' says narrator Wahlberg, who was himself prosecuted as an adult when he was 16. Doors rocker John Densmore and rapper Mos Def also are expected to be on hand for the Boston premiere. Tickets are $10 and proceeds benefit the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation.

Even more info (like directions and parking) at the Harvard site. To buy tickets you can call the Box Office at 617.496.2222

The LA Times had an article on the reissue of a book that said Dr. George Hodel killed the 'Black Dahlia.' The interesting bit is James Ellroy had before discounted the theory when Black Dahlia Avenger came out. Now he writes the forward to the paperback reissue and believes Steve Hodel's theory his father had killed Betty Short.

Due to the success of the November 2003 conference in San Francisco, CA called "Against Hate Crimes:  A German-American Symposium on Preventing Bias-Motivated Violence," "Juvies" was invited to screen and create discussion around the American juvenile justice system.  Unfortunately, due to our busy schedules, we will be unable to accompany the film.  However, Chaplain Javier Stauring will be going in our stead and if you haven't heard him speak, you've missed out.

And for our Spanish language fans, Stefy has MarkWahlberg.tk set up.

05-19
Searchlight is looking to place I Heart Huckabee's at the Venice Film Festival, that's according to Variety via Yahoo. It's not a done deal, but keep your ears open!

Also Entourage shooting spotted at Gold's Gym Hollywood last week.

05-12
From the Tuscon Weekly:

TW: And what's it like to kiss Mark Wahlberg?

Thanks to Kazuko and Sylvie: Pics of Mark at Michael Douglas' celebrity golf tournament at WireImage, Daily Celeb, Rex Pictures Part A, Part B, and one with Mark in the background. Also found more pics at Corbis and Star File.

Major thanks to Sylvie of Wahlberg's Flavor who received some interesting notes from Jen of DW.com (major props to her too) regarding some projects Mark is/was attached to.

You can read the details at Sylvie's site but here's my thoughts/comments and the status according to the info provided:

I Heart Huckabee's - A go obviously. Listed as post producttion/MW as committed.

The Adventures of Wyatt McHenry - Development maybe 2005. Mark signed on in 2003. Listed as in development/MW as attached.

True Believers - Limbo - No director. The film that wass to be Ringu director Hideo's US debut - has since left the project for Ring 2. Listed as Active development/MW in negotiations as of Dec.

Pride & Glory - Development hell - Hugh Jackman had drropped out last year. Listed as active development/MW as committed.

Four of a Kind - Dead - Mark mentioned this boyband movvie back when he was doing the rounds for Three Kings, haven't heard anything since. Listed as inactive/MW as committed.

Now some that we haven't heard of before:
Risk - a Penny Marshall Thriller project. Brief mentions but little details last year. Listed as Active Development/MW as attached.

Button Man - a comic adaptation by Ridley Scott menntioned way back in 2001 - no news since. Listed as Active Development/MW as attached.

Wish - a Dreamworks musical comedy project that had Britney Spears attached but no mention in the news since 2000. Listed as active development/MW as interested.

Yeager - a movie about WWII pilot Chuck Yeager. Brief mentions but little details last year. Listed as active development/MW as attached.

La Brava - an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's book. The script is being written by Joel and Ethan Coen according to Elmore a few months ago. Listed as in development/MW as interested.

La Brava is one that actually looks active but Mark is listed as only as being interested verses attached or committed. What that means is he's not officially signed on the movie. To get funding by the major studios, production companies usually want a big star attached to a movie so the studio can dream of all the billions in profits they could make and determine if they want to invest in the film. The star attached usually do film the movie but sometimes a studio will demand a change because the star attached is considered a weak boxoffice draw as a condition of receiving funding.

04-30
The AP reports that Mark was seen at the Sacramento Kings vs Dallas Mavericks playoff game last night - wearing a Kings cap!

Screen International reports the same as the Italian paper De Palma ala Mod found: A source close to Cinecitta confirmed that The Black Dahlia will shoot this summer at both the newly-restored Roma Studios and at the venerable Cinecitta' Studios. It is expected that De Palma will shoot interiors at Cinecitta' and will use Roma Studios' huge backlot to shoot exteriors.

Kazuko found a pic of Mark at last Saturday's James Caan Golf Classic on Rex Pictures.

One more screening from MW.com:

 New HBO celeb series "Entourage"

For Immediate Release

PRODUCTION BEGINS ON NEW HBO COMEDY SERIES ENTOURAGE, A LOOK INSIDE HOLLYWOOD’S CELEBRITY SCENE, WITH DEBUT SET FOR JULY

LOS ANGELES, April 12, 2004 - Production has begun on the new HBO comedy series ENTOURAGE, from executive producer Mark Wahlberg, it was announced today by Carolyn Strauss, president, HBO Entertainment. A look at the life of a young star and his buddies in Hollywood, the eight episodes of the series will debut on the network beginning this July. Wahlberg also makes a cameo appearance in the first episode.

“ENTOURAGE is a hilarious romp through the absurdities of modern-day Hollywood, drawing on the experiences of industry insiders,” said Strauss. “This show will make perfect summertime viewing.” Filming at Hollywood locations, ENTOURAGE tells the story of four longtime buddies from Queens who share the highs and lows of life in the fast lane of Hollywood, where the stakes are higher, and the money and temptations greater than ever before.

Adrian Grenier (“The Adventures of Sebastian Cole”) stars as Vince, a sexy young movie star whose career is just taking off. Slipping easily into stardom, Vince looks to his friends from the neighborhood to share the fun of the ride and keep him grounded. Kevin Connolly (“Antwone Fisher”) plays Eric, who’s learning the rules of Hollywood as he tries to help Vince make the right choices. Kevin Dillon (“The Doors”) plays Vince’s half-brother Drama, whose own acting aspirations have been eclipsed by his success. Jerry Ferrara (“Grounded for Life”) plays Turtle, the least experienced of the group, who’s always up for a good time. Jeremy Piven (“Old School”) plays Ari, Vince’s aggressive, high-powered agent, who clashes with Eric over his client’s decisions.

Guest starring in ENTOURAGE will be Debi Mazar (“The Tuxedo”) as Vince’s publicist Shauna, Samaire Armstrong (“The O.C.”) as Ari’s assistant Emily, and Monica Keena (“Undeclared”) as Vince’s ex-girlfriend Kristen.

In addition to Mark Wahlberg, cameo appearances in ENTOURAGE include Jessica Alba, Luke Wilson, Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman. The pilot episode of ENTOURAGE is directed by David Frankel (HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “Sex and the City”) from a script by Doug Ellin (“Kissing a Fool”) and Steve Tompkins (“The Simpsons”). ENTOURAGE is created by Doug Ellin; executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Doug Ellin and Larry Charles (HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Seinfeld”).

From De Palma a la Mod
"Gwen is a unique performer and I was delighted to work with her," he said. "But she's not right for Madeleine." De Palma also mentioned that he will be going to London this week to do some casting for the film, and then to Berlin to work with Alexander Manasse, the German production designer who worked on Run Lola Run.

It is looking as though Eva Green will be the choice to play Madeleine in Brian De Palma's upcoming The Black Dahlia. According to the website of Quality International, a company that controls international productions with an aim toward increasing European and German creative participation within international films, the cast for one of those films, The Black Dahlia, includes Josh Hartnett, Mark Wahlberg, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Green, and Fiona Shaw. Some have speculated that Shaw may be playing Madeleine's mother.

Also notes from Dark Horizons that James Ellroy mentioned on ARTE TV Dahlia was shooting in June.

De Palma mentioned a couple of days ago to De Palma a la Mod he may be adjusting the dates in order to allow cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond to be able to work on the picture. So perhaps that is the reason for the delay.

They updated the Juvies site with a bunch of LA screenings (and 1 in NC and NYC). Give y'all a bit of lead time. Stuff in brackets are my own updates to the info provided.
No word if Mark will be at any of them, but still it sounds like a really interesting documentary in light of all the hearings about the kids getting beaten up and locked in cages in the California juvenile detention centers.

An essential requirement for all people - and other life forms - shelter signifies not only a "roof over your head," but also connotes safe haven from such physical dangers as violence, war, and weather. Additional meanings of shelter, such as spiritual refuge; the significance of place, home, and identity; and the psychology of extreme shelter, such as solitary retreat, hermitage and imprisonment, might also be investigated.

"Juvies" will screen as part of this Conference on Friday, April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. For more information, contact [email protected], or call 510-642-3903.

Don't know how I missed it, but was going thru some sites I go to regularly and what do I find at AICN 2 months ago? An early review of I Heart Huckabee's! I must warn you the reviewer tells you just about every plot point in the film (confusing as it is) so if you hate spoilers don't click on the link. The reviewer does have kind words for Mark (which if you ever visit AICN know they hardly do) - saying he was a hoot thruout.

By the by, Movie Poopshoot got final word onthe I Heart/I Love Huckabee's thing. According to a publicist at Searchlight it's pronounce I Heart Huckabee's.
