Nada on any news on what's up
in the world of Mark Wahlberg. So I've been checking on the other stuff
I have healthy interest in (ie bordering on obsession lol). So I updated
things a bit on the links page.
A lot of bands have 'days', the
New Kids had April 24, 1989 (13 years ago! I feel really old cause I remember
seeing it in the newspaper!) proclaimed by then Mass. Governor Michael
Dukakis, as New Kids on the Block Day. Not too many get a day named by
a governor, usually it's just fans picking a day important to the band
or sometimes just a random date. So I added 2 'days' for two bands I listen
to. I was thinking maybe we could do one for Mark, but I like to think
everyday is Mark Wahlberg day. :)
03-27
While Mark didn't make a run
over the red carpet, he did show up at an Oscar party thrown by Endeavor
and DreamWorks' Production Prez. Also more on the Razzies in
the news.
03-24
Oscar is just around the corner
and yes Mark is once again not one of the nominees. POTA has the unfortune
to be awarded only with Razzies for: Worst sequel/remake; worst supporting
actress, Estella Warren and worst supporting actor, Charlton Heston. If
you don't know what Razzies are, just know Mariah Carey & Tom Green
won the actor categories.
03-22
Thanks to Kazuko who found a
bit of info on Mark doing a Teen Summit in association with the Boys &
Girls Club in Anaheim this weekend. I found the whole PR on PRNewswire
which you can read here.
And check out the picture available at the official
B&G Club site.
03-21
MW.com has been updated to add
info on the Mark
Wahlberg Youth Foundation.
Upcomingmovies
has noted The Truth About Charlie is rated PG13, so all of you you who
had to drag your parents or older siblings to Rock Star , will have no
problems seeing this by yourself.
03-12
Alright finally a bit of news
on what Mark has been doing over break. Variety
says he's working on a TV show called "The Entourage" for HBO, something
along the lines of The Larry Sanders Show or The Chris Isaak Show (for
those who don't remember Larry's show) focusing on the life of the people
around an actor instead of a talk show host and a musician of the other
shows. Seems unlikely Mark would actually star but I wouldn't put past
a cameo now and then. No time frame on how long this will take but HBO
has a fairly fast turn around. Now why MW.com wasn't updated on this since
it's owned by Leverage is something I'd love to see explored on the show
(among other things). I personally can think of several things Mark could
probably pull out from his own experiences and I expect alot of inside
jokes.
03-09
I've been sick last week, so
sorry about the lack of updates. But on Thursday, Mark was at the El Rey
Theatre in LA to watch a new group - Jonny Was - E is helping manage,
perform.
02-28
If you haven't been to the Mark
Wahlberg MBs, they're back up.
Still nada on the MW front, just
some little related tidbits: From PTAnderson.com
- PTA's agent, John Lesher, has left UTA (United Talent Agency) to joined
rival agency Endeavor as a partner and agent in the their motion picture
literary department. According to reports in the Hollywood Reporter &
L.A. Times, UTA agreed to settle Lesher's contract, which still had 14
months to go. John Lesher represents other clients such as directors Sydney
Pollack, David O. Russell, Kimberly Peirce, Jessie Nelson & actress
Jennifer Jason Leigh. At this point, it is unclear which of Lesher's clients
will follow him. Lesher will be one of 10 partners at Endeavor. Lesher
worked at UTA since 1991.
As most of you know Mark is with
Endeavor and has said in recent interviews he would be working with PT
and David O. Russell on some small indie films one of these days. Maybe
with Lesher joining the agency, the projects will get an added booster.
And from USA Today - Robert
Marc and Microshapes are two of the brands favored for sunglasses and regular
frames by those in the bright lights.
"No celebrity can leave the
house without being behind their shades, either to hide or for style,"
Marc says.
Though Marc has been around
for 20 years, celebrities still stock up on his offerings, available in
finer eyeglass stores around the country, as well as in Japan, England,
France and Switzerland, and range from $225 to $500.
Marc is known for combining
colors, such as azure, orchid or azalea on a mint background. His spring
line will include a safari collection with the warm browns, rusts and greens
of Africa.
Fans include Bebe Neuwirth,
Julianne Moore, Kyra Sedgwick, Brooke Shields and Uma Thurman.
The line gets on-screen time
as well. Look for Marc frames on Meg Ryan and Spalding Gray in Kate &
Leopold, Julia Roberts in Ocean's Eleven, Mark Wahlberg and Thandie Newton
in The Truth About Charlie (October) and Rene Russo and Eddie Murphy in
Showtime (March 29).
So I think that solidifies the
Fall date, so it'll be quite awhile til we see Mark on the big screen.
Kinda cute that the sunglasses are Robert Marc, as Mark's name is Mark
Robert [Michael Wahlberg]! Wonder if the costume designer or Mark picked
up on that?
02-14
POTA got nothing from the Academy,
not even Rick Baker! I loved A Beautiful Mind, but there wasn't that much
makeup effects on the cast.
A few pictures out there in magazines,
the newest Movieline has Mark listed as one of the sexiest men in Hollywood.
Duh! Thnx Jenn! There's a tiny photo in Esquire (US Edition - March), with
Mark being listed as most improved in the Best dressed article.
AOL has some of Mark's
favorite places in and around the Boston area, even his favorite secret
place. It ain't no secret anymore!
New pic of Mark & Thandie

02-12
According to the NY Post, Mark
was spotted in Hollywood.
ASHLEY Hamilton, the son of George Hamilton
and ex-husband of Shannen Doherty, gets no respect. The other night, Hamilton
was hanging with a pal in a booth at Joseph's in Hollywood when the club's
promoter, Pantera Sarah, asked him to move. "She had to make room for Mark
Wahlberg," said our spy. When Wahlberg refused the seat, Hamilton was allowed
back, but seconds later was booted when Matthew Perry walked in.
Mark's bro, Donnie is set for
a new series on NBC -
Hollywood Reporter
In the first casting for the
NBC/NBC Studios L.A.-based ensemble cop drama from writer/executive producer
Graham Yost, Wahlberg has signed on to play one of the leads -- a bright,
shyly charming and soulful detective, who seemingly has it all -- a perfect
job and a perfect family -- but is falling apart on the inside. The pilot
will be directed by Jon Avnet.
"I think that the writing-directing
team of Graham Yost and Jon Avnet and now the casting of Donnie Wahlberg
show that this is a very high-profile project that's going to attract other
actors of similar quality," said NBC Studios president Ted Harbert.
Wahlberg, repped by David
Lillard at the Ilene Feldman Agency and AMG, recently signed to star in
Castle Rock Entertainment's adaptation of Stephen King's bestseller "The
Dreamcatcher" for filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan and the indie feature "Leopold
Bloom." His other credits include "The Sixth Sense" and HBO's "Band of
Brothers."
02-08
Fixed up the February links.
Mark is listed in the latest issue of the Hollywood Reporter's Power issue
as a strong star, meaning he is just below superstar status in the eyes
of Hollywood. Pal and co-star George Clooney was in the super category,
more details here.
Other news, the NY Post reports:
Abel
Ferrara is searching for one to play a younger version of Christopher Walken
in "The Last Crew," the
long-awaited prequel to Ferrara's
"King of New York." Mark Wahlberg was set for the role last year, but dropped
out.
02-04
More POTA news, including a
states
side report on the lawsuit and some nomination news. BAFTA, the UK
Oscars have nominated POTA for best makeup & hair and costume design.
Also Colleen Atwood - head of costumes on POTA, is also up for an award
from the costume designing guild.
I also got myself a dvd player,
so I'll be running round town to get some Mark movies in the new format.
Yipee! Anyway, I've added some preliminary
thoughts on Mark DVDs. I need to do some research before we try anything,
but let me know if there's anything else you want to add. I may start a
more comprehensive DVD page once I get my collection up to par, depending
on how things go.
Other DVD news, while searching
around for the forementioned stuff, I saw The Big Hit is being rereleased
as a Superbit collection in the US/Canada in March. What it means is don't
worry if you already have the 1st release, it's just a new Sony way of
placing info on a DVD disc. It's suppose to be better sound and even better
picture, but only if you're fanatical about how DVDs look and have a home
theatre system would you notice anything different if at all.
02-01
Several extras are suing
Fox over supposed exposure to carcinogens during filming. Lurker actually
gave me a heads up on this report, before I found some more details. Thanx!
01-31
This week's EW has a pic of
Mark, Thandie and director Jonathan Demme in it's 2002 preview issue. Thanks
to Baby Junior for pointing that out. It has Charlie set to open in August!
This film has more dates attached to it than legs on a millipede! Don't
forget to write to EW to thank them
for the sneak peak and how we want more!
Julie over at the boards has
a new website devoted to Mark, Donnie and Robert called Those
Wahlberg Men. Go check it out.
01-25
Dark
Horizons reports: "Pride & Glory: New York City Mayor's Office
of Film confirm the Hugh Jackman cop thriller project "has been shut down
and cancelled as of late last week" So that scratches this project off
the possible list.
01-23
It has been a week of Mark DVD
releases, last Thursday saw POTA out in Region 4, RS came out Tuesday in
Region 1 and today Region 4 again, gets The Yards! Those without DVDs,
it also means you can go out and rent VHS!
Dark
Horizons is reporting Pride & Glory (the possible Mark project)
may be placed on hold because it is about corruption in the NYPD.
AICN pulled my short transcript
I sent over to PTAnderson.com (not
citing sources how nice) and posted on my MarkTalk group from HotDog Magazine's
interview with Mark.
Word is PT is also considering
a sequel to Boogie Nights!
01-18
Rock Star opened as #8 in the
UK, go out and support the film.
Some mics dates on DVD movie
releases outside the US, I don't want to list all the countries, as some
have 3 dozen. I'm sure you can figure it out if you buy DVDs.
OT: Posted my little report about
my QAF signing.
01-10
Upcomingmovies
just updated the date to Oct 11, 2002 for Charlie! Almost exactly 10 months
if he's right!
Gorgeous official
pics of Mark & Thandie from The Truth About Charlie from 13th Street
via Dark Horizons. Further confirms Fall opening.
There's a pretty good interview
in the UK mag, Hotdog (UK-Jan). Don't know how difficult it is to find,
but got mine at
Virgin Megastore.
I'll try and transcribe it soon, but I'm not giving myself a deadline.
So don't kill me if it takes weeks.
I was asked by AskMen
to link to this site! Mark was Man of the week Dec. 20th and they have
a small feature you might want to check out.
Rock Star is open in Germany
and will be out in the UK Friday.
01-09
Thanks to Nicki who sent in
a short article about RS from
Teletext (UK).
If you happen to be in the biz,
you could prob get into the academy screening of POTA down in LA Wed. with
your creds. Maybe rub some shoulders with bigwigs...
Totally OT. I met 3 of the actors
of my favorite TV show I cannot watch - Queer
as Folk - tonight! Got their autographs and a few pics. Quality is
crap thanks to the darkness and strobe lights (again with the lighting-
1st RS now this!) But OMG, Peter, Michelle and Gale were gorgeous. I'll
post soon!
01-07-2002
The UK papers are starting up
on some reviews of RS, the Independent
has a barb filled positive review and the Herald has a mixed one.
Well, according to Variety, The
Truth About Charlie is still scheduled for 'Fall,' in a recent article
about the studios. So the date is definately in the air folks.
Mark's artwork over at AOL went
for $2,051!
Monica over at the MBs has set
up an Italian website to Mark.
Lots of lovely pics and such.
Thanks to Garth over at Dark
Horizons for the info. Those in Australia & the rest of the Oceania
region and South America will finally get a chance to buy the DVD of The
Yards Jan 23, as well as rent the vid.
