Make sure you check the Planet
of the Apes site often as they will be putting new stuff every week.
Make sure you take a look at the interview
with Burton as there are several scenes of Mark. Even one of him on
horseback!
Download the trailer here
to avoid most of the Flash. The trailer is set for download today at
12 NoonPST/3pmEST/8pmGMT. Make sure you have quicktime loaded!
TigerLily and GoodFan reported
the trailer was E News and Extra, so hopefully a majority of you got to
see at least a part of it.
I hope you guys in the UK caught
the trailer on Big Breakfast today!
02-27
The guys at AICN digitized the
Access Hollywood teaser, so those who missed it or can't get it, can see
it here. Gotta love those fanboys and their tech toys.
A Press Release for the POTA
site. Noticed the site actually has a bit more stuff. There's a wallpaper
of the teaser poster, character descriptions and according to the Press
Release, they'll be adding new pics every week! Also added the release
date for the Netherlands.
Thnx to Toast on the CA boards,
link to a copy of a clip on Fox News with the trailer, see it here.
You need Quicktime to see it.
Here's the direct link to the
pic
of Mark if you're having problems getting into the official site. To
see the other three go to Dark Horizons.
UKers, POTA will be shown on
Big Breakfast tomorrow morning!
The official
Planet of the Apes site is up and running! You'll need to upgrade to
Flash
5.0 or your computer will crash like mine did. Not much there right
now, but there are 4 pictures from the movie - including one of Mark and
a quicktime interview with Tim Burton. If you want to skip the intro go
thru this link.
Still upgrade Flash or it will
do wicked voo doo on your computer!
ACCESS HOLLYWOOD TODAY! Mark
and other cast interview and the premier of the trailer! Program your VCRs
now. Check TVGuide or ZapTV if you don't know when it's on in your area.
02-26
Coming
Attractions added a late update, which includes a capture of the teaser
- a closeup of Mark as Leo, all damp and lost!
I'm working on a more comprehensive
FAQs. If you have any suggestions as for questions you feel are important
and are asked alot, drop me an email.
Dark Horizons confirmed the CA
alert and notes it will be available on satellite for the networks TUESDAY!
So if you have a dish, look around the transmissions! Otherwise expect
the entertainment shows to have coverage this week.
02-25
Coming
Attractions reports the Teaser trailer premiere's on the web THIS Wednesday
at 12 noon Pacific Standard Time/3pm Eastern!
Forgot to mention POTA's effects
are being done by ILM according to USA Today.
02-24
Hey I have my own scoop, sorta
anyway. The official POTA site
has stopped redirecting to Foxmovies.com! Looks like the site will go live
soon! Nothing there right now, just a Fox banner.
Access Hollywood needs to die!
Seriously they haven't said a thing about POTA and I even sent an email
to NBC! I hope ET scoops them!
Movieheadlines.Net lead me to
another scoop at Fandom.
It details the promotional brochure at the Toy Fair. No pics of Mark :(
but some good pics of the other casts.
02-23
USA Today had a short column
about Mark and his recent trip
to NYC.
Added a tiny bit about Donnie's
show on my TV show
page. I may add more detailed stuff if the show really hooks me and
Mark news dries up with him going to France. So far I like what I've been
hearing.
Tim
Burton's POTA -fansite had a link to a site, EntertainmentEarth,
which will allow you to buy the new POTA figures. Only thing they are the
collection, consisting of several characters and cost $99.99. I think
I'll wait til they're in stores and buy Leo individually.
Coming Attractions also has a
link to some story boards staring Mark on Horseback! From Tuesday
Night Movie Club, Now these are only storyboards, so details aren't
on Mark per se. In fact I could hardly tell the difference between him
and other characters. But it gives you an idea of how the film is being
filmed. The column also has some spoilage on the weapons used by the apes.
02-21
Southern Reign spotted an old
Boogie Nights interview
with Mark. You'll need the Windows Media Player to see it.
Keep checking Access Hollywood
for the POTA trailer. They must of have had it to post it on their website
last week. Meanwhile Dark Horizons
reports today exhibitors have been sent notice the teaser trailer is coming
March 2.
Movieheadlines.net again got
a big merchandise PR release about the Planet
of the Apes comic books. Ooo Mark as a cartoon. Bet he looks just as
good as pen and ink as he does in celluloid!
02-18
Found an UK
article about the POTA toys. Looks like the toys will be coming your
way in the Fall. :(
Finally got around to uploading
some new scans from Details,
Movieline and US. Funny how George was on the cover and 4 years later
they would be working together in 3 movies!
I added a search engine (under
the calendar). I'm hoping it works Ok. It's supposed to let you search
for specific terms in this website, let you know which pages were updated
and a site map. Let me know how it works for you, if you hate it or find
it useless.
02-16
GO Vote for Mark for best supporting
actor in a drama! Voting ends Today! So go vote at -- http://www.blockbusterawards.com/main.html.
Finally got my hands on the new
Vanity Fair. Tell them you appreciate their photo spread at [email protected]
or Vanity Fair, 4 Times Square, NY, NY 10036. Make sure you add your name,
address and daytime phone number.
In addition clarified my
policy on the scanned pics - shouldn't affect a majority of you - but
I hope it clears up things for those it does affect.
02-16
If you're near Las Vegas, you
might be able to get a sneak peak at a bunch of POTA gear. MAGIC
(Men's Apparel Guild in California) is showcasing some POTA clothes,
mostly kids stuff, but boxer shorts with Mark as Leo are possibilities!
Also here's a listing
of the stuff we can expect and the companies producing them (even has
UK & Canada co.) I'll probably go broke!
Tim
Burton's POTA, an unofficial site, has a link to a guy with scans of
the script! Looks legit. If you don't mind being totally spoiled about
how the film begins and one of the later scenes, follow this link. Update:
Looks like the guy is being sued by FOX, for trying to sell the script
on Ebay. Hope you got a look before it disappeared!
Dark
Horizons reports the new Poster for POTA is suppose to be put out this
weekend. Side note: Got a mention in the bits
section!
Just a heads up, Cinescape,
a sci-fi mag- has a pic of their next issue, which boosts an exclusive
look at POTA! Should be out next month.
02-15
I was checking some of the International
Fox sites and a handful have started to ask for email address so they can
notify people when the POTA trailer comes online! Try the links I have
in the calendar section and register!
Just in case you don't know the
MW.com MBs are not exactly down, only the General & Off topic sections
are weird. Mark S. was trying to get rid of some of Nadia's posts, but
the tool he was using went a little wacky. Check the POTA section. If you're
having problems going thru the front page use this
link to go directly to the MBs.
Filmforce.com posted some new
pictures of the 6-inch figures for the Planet of the Apes, which you can
see
here and a closeup
of Leo here. Filmforce.com
also report "Even though the Planet of the Apes display was even more
crowded than the day before, I was able to grab a few more pictures of
the standard size figure line and take in the promo again, just to make
sure I didn't miss anything. The promo itself includes comments from Director
Tim Burton and Special Effects Master Rick Baker, along with the make-up
shots of Michael Duncan mentioned in my Day 2 write-up. Other features
of the promo are Helena Bonham Carter and discussing their characters.
The footage of the film contained in the promo is pretty limited. There's
a brief shot of Helena Bonham Carter having to explain why she was in the
company of humans; of Mark Wahlberg leading humans through a jungle, but
most significantly, a night time battle scene that when you consider what
shooting this must have entailed, is rather impressive. Over 500 extras
were used in this sequence, plus it was shot at night, and contains many
special effects shots using multiple live fires – no CGI."
02-14
PR Newswires: 'Fox Licensing
& Merchandising has issued the following caption to accompany the photo
available at:
http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20010214/LAW099
Damn, dirty...bus? Apes have
been sighted from coast to coast this week as Fox revealed the first look
at Tim Burton's star-studded reinvention of the film. Attendees of the
MAGIC apparel show in Las Vegas today went bananas for a hairy shuttle
bus decorated in honor of Fox's highly-anticipated film Planet of the Apes.
More than 50 companies plan to release a vast array of Apes-themed merchandise
for what promises to be this summer's 800-pound gorilla. '
USA Today reports that the Leo
figure is actually coming even sooner than what the Hasbro PR said! "Mark
Wahlberg as Leo (Hasbro, $9.99; July): Summer's release of the remake of
Planet of the Apes will inspire several figures, including pilot Leo, sporting
a flashy white suit and a pod locator."
The Ridgecrest
Independent had a report of POTA packing up and leaving the Trona area.
Looks like filming is ending a bit early.
02-13
Congrats to The Perfect Storm
for getting two Oscar nominations for Best Sound and Visual Effects.
Even more POTA stuff, from AICN
a short
report of the Trailer and interviews. Note the fanboy actually had
good things to say about Mark! AICN also had a link to a more comprehensive
report from HomeTheatreForum!
More Planet of the Apes stuff.
Including
reports
Mark went to NYC to show the rough footage that may be used in the
teaser trailer and predicted
prices for the figures being produced by Hasbro from Movieheadlines.net!
02-12
From Movieheadlines.net: 'Alex
here for the Planet of the Apes Multimedia Site www.accesshollywood.com
will soon be releasing the New Apes Trailer as confirmed by their official
web site. It was to be on today's show but it seems that Access didn't
get the trailer on time. The release of the trailer will also include an
interview with Mark Wahlberg on location. This will be on Access Hollywood's
"first look" segment.
Since the show wasn't aired tonight,
that could only mean that it could be aired at any given moment without
notice, as now Access Hollywood is now over due on this POTA segment. Keep
your eyes open and keep your viewers posted!'
The International Toy Fair continues
in NYC. If you can sneak in or get some tickets, see if you can snag some
action figures of Mark and other POTA goodies! First article about the
Fair
from E! They report the trailer was shown there! Hopefully some spies
got in and taped it!
Clearer scans from Empire
Magazine of the Vanity Fair Pics.
TV alert! Mark is supposed to
be on E! News TODAY talking about Planet of the apes! I can't get E!
on my cable system, so I have to beg you to tell me what happens!
If you're in the city, go pick
up the latest Vanity Fair (march 2001 - Julianne Moore - thanx to Bella
on egroup's MWfan list). The rest of us in boonieville will have to wait
until they get here!
Tomorrow morning the Oscar nominations
are announced. Hopefully TPS will get some of those tech noms!
02-10
Added question marks on the
release dates for Rock Star, as WB is thinking of moving it to the
fall according to Mark
Shields'- Webmaster of MW.com- comments. Personally I think they are
moving it, as the latest issue of EW doesn't list Rock Star in it's spring
Movie preview and WB Movies has changed
the spring 2001 listing in it's coming soon section to Fall 2001.
Flipped the calendar, it was
getting a little too long going the other way.
02-08
Movieheadlines.Net
has some scans of the Vanity Fair up. It's a bit cut off but you get the
idea. Mark
looks gorgeous as always! Wish I was Helena! Also a pic of Tim
Burton & Apes and Estella
Warren and Kris Kristophersen.
Ali from the MW.com MBs reports
the next Empire (UK March I think) will have a spread about Planet of the
Apes!
Variety also reports Tim Robbins
is joining
The Truth About Charlie and shooting begin March 14 in Paris.
02-07
Yea!! the MW.com Mbs are up

Coming
Attractions has Even MORE scoops on POTA, lots of pics including this
one of a page from the info ad for merchandisers with a
pic of Mark in his astronaut suit and a pic of him on the set. A clearer
one is available in the third link! They have links to Sci-fi
Expo who have the first pics of the action toys, including Leo (Mark's
character). It
looks a bit out of proportion, could be the angle of the photo, but it
does look like him! I am so buying it when it comes out. CA also has the
link to Set
Online, a Brazilian site (in Portuguese) that has the first real pic
of Mark as Leo. Looks
like he's just popped out of the crashed ship. Can you say GORGEOUS!?!

is number 17. You have to complete the ballot and enter your email
address for the vote to count. You can only vote once a day, per
email address. So, if you have more than one email address...use
them.
Coming
Attractions got a scoop from an extra with a ton of info, including
word from Zanuck the trailer is scheduled to arrive Presidents Day (Feb.
19). Don't know if this means online as films open on Weds or Fri. here
in the US, so he may have meant that weekend, so watch for FOX films that
weekend! They also have a call
sheet for Jan. 22. Mark was there and you can kinda see what scenes
he filmed and his schedule that day. Cool beans!
American Mule posted a Trade
ad, (a promotional thing they send to merchandisers), whether it's
legit is questionable, but it still looks good. It has character detail
and the plot. So spoiler alert!
From the Hollywood Reporter:
"Cinematographers Roger Deakins ("O Brother, Where Art Thou?"), Caleb Deschanel
("The Patriot"), John Mathieson ("Gladiator"), Peter Pau ("Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon") and John Seale ("The Perfect Storm") will compete for the
American Society of Cinematographers' feature film honors." More info from

01-20
Magazine alert! Next week's
EW (Jan. 26-Feb. 2) has the first picture of Mark on the Potter's set with
Burton. Serious spoiler alert!
(Begin Spoiler)
It also dismisses the rumored
endings involving the Statue of Liberty. "...and the Statue of Liberty
is nowhere to be seen. "It doesn't take place in Earth's future," reveals
Zanuck. "This time it's a total different planet. But there is a surprise
ending."' (end spoiler)
Send
thank yous to EW for the pic of Mark! Once I'm done with this flu,
I'll scan it and stick it somewhere here.
From the Irish
Times: "At the end of the 1990s, she returned to meatier movie roles
when Darren Aronofsky cast her in Requiem For a Dream and James Gray gave
a role in the New York crime saga, The Yards, which brings together three
notable rising talents - Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix and Charlize Theron
- with three established actors from an earlier generation - Faye Dunaway,
James Caan and Ellen Burstyn.
"What is with that picture and
the way people have taken against it?" Burstyn wonders about The Yards.
"What did they expect? I think it's a very well-made film, very intelligent
and the cast is so good. The American critics have been so negative about
it, for whatever reason. Some of the reviews have been so vicious."
01-18
Thanx to KristyKay, MTV

From HR: "Sound editors hear
Oscar call
The contest for the sound editing
Oscar is under way, as seven films were named Thursday by the sound editing
branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as contenders
for the award. Warner Bros.' "The Perfect
Storm" and "Space Cowboys," 20th Century Fox/DreamWorks'
"Cast Away," DreamWorks/Universal Pictures' "Gladiator," Paramount Pictures'
"Mission: Impossible 2," Universal Pictures' "U-571" and Buena Vista's
"Unbreakable" will vie for Academy Award consideration. Ten-minute clips
of each film will be screened for a sound editing nominating committee
at the sound effects "bakeoff" scheduled for Feb. 6. The committee will
then vote to nominate three films, which will be announced Feb. 13 with
the entire list of Oscar noms. "
'Wolfgang Petersen Hits Beach
at Warner Bros. By Michael Fleming
NEW YORK (Variety) - With "The
Perfect Storm'' having sailed smoothly to a $327 million worldwide gross,
Warner Bros. has signed that film's director, Wolfgang Petersen, to a multiyear,
first-look deal to direct more films at the studio.
Petersen's Radiant Prods. was
previously based at Columbia, which distributed his 1997 hit "Air Force
One.''
Though WB often partners on big-ticket
films, the studio was the sole financier on "Storm,''
which cost about $137 million to make. It
was also considered the underdog going into the Fourth of July weekend,
when it was up against the Mel Gibson starrer "The Patriot'' It bested
that film and emerged with the most successful three-day opening in studio
history, and the third best July Fourth weekend of any film.
It also bolstered the bankability
of leads George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg.
"The Perfect Storm'' was Warner's top-grossing hit of 2000.
"I had such a good experience
with the studio that when they tried to get me there, there wasn't much
reluctance on my part,'' Petersen said. "I'd done 'Outbreak' there and
thought it would be the place to spend the next couple of years.''
Petersen, who first caught Hollywood's
attention with another water-based project in "Das Boot,'' has been on
a roll of late, with his last four films earning a combined $1 billion
worldwide, each grossing more than the previous. "Perfect Storm'' became
the biggest, edging the $314 million grossed by Harrison Ford's "Air Force
One.'' The two prior pictures were ''Outbreak'' (1995) and "In the Line
of Fire'' (1993).
The director hasn't decided on
a next helming effort, and most assuredly won't make a film before possible
writers' and actors' strikes next summer.
"I was offered things, but these
days there is so much at stake with each film, I do not want to feel rushed,''
he said. ''With the new deal in place, I'll set out to find my next movie.
Now that I'm dry again, we'll see what Warner Bros. has, put our heads
together and hopefully find something soon.''
With screenwriter Dan Gilroy
through National Geographic (news - web sites) Films, Petersen's also developed
"Endurance,'' the story of South Pole explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, in
hopes that Mel Gibson will star.
He said that he's lost none of
his enthusiasm for the project despite a big-budget miniseries being developed
by cable's A&E to star Kenneth Branagh.
"It'll only heighten interest
in the story,'' he said. '
01-11
Added international dates for
POTA. These however are not confirmed by other sources, so they may be
wrong. I'm more certain about Australia, as it came from Dark Horizons.
The UK date is from Filminfo, but I don't know the reliability of their
info. Before you start emailing me about other countries, I don't know
and probably won't find out as I can't read other languages. Try online
movie magazine sites or your country's Yahoo Movie section to see if they
have it listed. Otherwise be patient. Fox was very good with listing all
the int'l dates when The X-Files Movie was released and will probably do
the same with POTA when the website is up.
More from Hollywood Reporter:
"Visual effects Oscar race set By Chris Gardner
LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter)
--- The race for the visual effects Oscar is in place, as seven films were
named Wednesday by the visual effects branch of the Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences as contenders for the award.
20th Century Fox/DreamWorks'
"Cast Away," Buena Vista's "Dinosaur," Universal Pictures' "Dr. Seuss'
How the Grinch Stole Christmas," DreamWorks/Universal Pictures' "Gladiator,"
Sony's "Hollow Man," Warner Bros.' "The Perfect
Storm" and 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" will
compete for Academy Award consideration. The list will be narrowed to three,
with the nominations announced Feb. 13.
Outer space was aced out of the
race, as three visual effects-laden films, Warner Bros.' "Red Planet" and
"Space Cowboys" and Buena Vista's "Mission to Mars" were left off the list.
Other films being positioned for the category but absent from the short
list included Paramount Pictures' "Mission: Impossible 2" and DreamWorks'
"Chicken Run."
Although no particular visual
effects house dominated this year's list of contenders, Sony Pictures'
Imageworks completed work on "Cast Away" and "Hollow Man."
The Secret Lab worked on "Dinosaur,"
Digital Domain and Rhythm & Hues worked on "The Grinch," the Mill worked
on "Gladiator," and ILM worked on "The Perfect
Storm." Twelve effects houses worked on "X-Men."
Portions of the contending films
are set to be screened at the annual "effects bakeoff" for members of the
visual effects branch Feb. 7. Filmmakers representing each film will show
15-minute clips of the most impressive visual effects.
"They're magical evenings because
you are going to see the best visual effects of the year, complete with
the key contributors to answer questions about their films and their visual
effects and how they were attained," awards administration director Rich
Miller said. "That doesn't happen very often."
All active members of the visual
effects branch will vote to nominate three films. Winners will be announced
at the 73rd Annual Academy Awards on March 25.
The visual effects extravaganza
"The Matrix" took home the Oscar last year."
01-10
From Hollywood Reporter: "Visual
effects Oscars: lucky seven nominated
Mutants, dinosaurs, Roman warriors
and one whale of a storm are among the contenders for best visual effects
at the Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced
today seven films that will be considered for Oscar nominations in that
category: "Cast Away," "Dinosaur," "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas,"
"Gladiator," "Hollow Man," "The Perfect Storm"
and "X-men." The academy's visual-effects committee will review 15-minute
clip reels from each of those movies, then choose three for Oscar nominations.
The nominees will be announced with those in 22 other categories on Feb.
13. The Oscars will be presented March 25. (AP) "

From IGN: kinda old news, but
start looking for the video on the rock video shows. "With Mark Wahlberg
on lead vocals, the group recorded the soundtrack album a few months back.
"Crown of Falsehood," one of the tracks on the album, features frenetic
guitar work by Zakk Wylde. (On a side note, I'm told that Wahlberg plays
bass in the music video for Black Label Society's new song "Counterfeit
God.")"
From the Hollywood Reporter:
"ShoWest award to 'Cast Away'
writer Broyles
William Broyles Jr., who wrote
the screenplay for current boxoffice champ "Cast Away," will be honored
as Screenwriter of the Year at the ShoWest 2001 convention. Broyles will
receive his award at the annual Gala Awards Banquet on March 8 in Las Vegas,
said Robert Sunshine, chairman of Sunshine Group Worldwide, which operates
the event. Broyles was nominated for an Academy Award for "Apollo 13,"
which he co-wrote with Al Reinert. He also
wrote the screenplay for Fox's highly anticipated remake of "Planet of
the Apes" for director Tim Burton and Fox's
1999 "Entrapment.""

this will only work if you participate.
